Prospect Report: June 12th Checking-In

The Prospect Report:

June 12th

Janiah Burrage is the talk

Pitt, Louisville, Penn State, and Texas A+M are in the hunt for the Forza OH.  They will all be in the mix.  She has been to camps at Pitt, Texas A&M, and is heading to Louisville on Saturday.  Burrage seems wide open and wants to be developed, but she has a lot of star power to offer some of the top programs in the country, so she will be one of the biggest battles on the 15th.

Maya Ogbogu made quite the impression at The Texas Experience camp earlier this week, according to sources attending. Enough that I think UT has to consider offering the TAV star. Again, this is a situation not about her talent, because she is talented enough for Texas, but more about her cost. There are places that will offer her more $ year one that I believe Texas will, as they have a different philosophy, believe what you will. They honestly try to spread their cap space over the roster, and other programs will load up to get someone like Maya, even if it’s for a few years. Regardless, it shows a lot for her talent that she raised some eyes at the camp in a high-pressure environment, so great for her, and who knows, it could lead to her being a Longhorn after all?

Taimane Ainu’u, after talks in Phoenix last weekend and Wisconsin and Texas camps this week, sticks at #1 setter for the class. I will leave the prediction of where she ends up until the LIVE Show on Sunday night.

Awesome comments this week on an athlete that I know went through an up-and-down season, and maybe a couple of seasons. Tegan Loechler has looked very good during camp week, playing only Opposite and not setting at all, and she is having a great time doing it. Coaches have complimented her pop and arm strength for not training there full-time, and her explosion in her approach.

Izzie Penrose (AZ Storm Libero) was on the road this week. She attended the UCLA camp, but was also part of the Elite Libero Tryout in Wisconsin, as it seemed the Badger Staff brought in nearly every top libero prospect in the class last week, as they hunt for a top libero. Penrose will definitely be in that conversation. She has also been at ASU, and I know we are missing several others.

Morgan Nesloney TAV Houston has been quiet on her camp action, but did make the All-NIT Team last weekend in Arizona during the large tourney held there.

Leighton Fröehlich is a prospect we have been wondering about ever since we watched her dominate at Nattys last summer for Nebraska Premier. The slender MB who could possibly transition to an RS, at the next level, has been quiet with her recruiting journey, or maybe it has just picked up lately, but she has a busy June with camps at Michigan State, OU, South Carolina, and Georgetown planned. She could be a complete STEAL for one of those last four schools if they grab her and a development project for K. Kelsey, Michigan State program, who remembered her from her club days in Nebraska. **Froehich is a sleeper name for the Open Period

Penn State held its 8 Star camp on Thursday, and it was a different look than last year, with talent spread over more classes, but talent in attendance nonetheless. With the large 2027 Class, look for the Nittany Lions to be focused on a couple of specific, but talented pieces here in 2028. Looking at the camp list they were getting a jump start on that 2029 Setter recruiting and why not, we have as well! As for next Monday, I’d guess pin, middle, and libero (who can’t use those every year).

Two of the quieter prospects in this class, but two of the stars that honestly are built for some big college success are Taylor Johnson and Trinity Johnson. Both OH’s, but not sisters.

Taylor Johnson from Skyline Jrs is just an athletic talent, but she has a high-level of volleyball skill already. She is going to fall just below that initial wave that is getting all of the attention right now, but has that extra inch of height and explosion. Watch for her, I have a dark-horse favorite I’m pulling for getting her verbal.

Then Trinity Johnson plays for TAV and has shown her versatility this season as the team has moved her all over in the offense at different times, so Johnson has shown the ability to run a multitude of different routes from anywhere and be efficient in scoring.

Julia Clarke, MB A5, is another who has gone somewhat quiet for the few weeks before camp season and during camps. The Georgia area middle, who had so much hype and momentum early in the season and was playing so well for the U16S #1 ranked club, has been pretty closed up about recruiting and camping and her plans, but should be in the top batch of the class, you would still think, especially with her SEC location.
