The Prospect Watch
June 2nd
What we are hearing and What we are thinking
as Camp Week 2026 Begins.
A quick lap around American- News and Notes surrounding the buzz with some of the latest regarding Class of ’28 recruiting as we head down the stretch.
Holding their own: Did you know that the Summit League would have 3 of the top 6 schools in the Big East as far as AVG Class PPV for the last two seasons? University of South Dakota would rank 3rd (behind Creighton and Marquette), while Nebraska-Omaha would tie for 4th place with Georgetown and back-to-back Summit Champs South Dakota State would be 6th place in the Big East if you took their avg. recruiting classes.
A5 Depth: The Atlanta based club truly is the best club around right now and proof of that. A couple of the athletes on their 2nd team (which also qualified for Nationals) is getting legit P4 consideration and we have ranked in our Top 100. Raegan Marshman is the top prospect and the middle blocker will be attending Duke and Indiana in her Pre-June 15th camps to give you some idea of the interest.
Knox is a Pitt lock right? It’s long been thought that Pitt native and Panther fan Alexandra Knox would be a perfect fit to be the Panthers choice at Setter to fill their ’28 need at Setter. With all the chaos going on, in this class, it’s been almost a gift that Pitt has been so lucky to escape everything with the hometown Knox really showing no signs of interest in any other schools OR does she? She is rumored to be attending SMU’s camp and there was rumbles that people were trying to confirm if she was at Kentucky’s loaded prospect camp on Monday (I don’t believe she was however). So could there be anything to worry about if you are Pitt?
I just can’t believe Knox looks anywhere else, I haven’t checked in with her for awhile, but she really seemed like an athlete that fit that program perfectly and could handle the intensity of playing there with the pressure in and outside the program. Plus, she is THAT GOOD, Fish and Staff WANT HER.
Averi Bridges: She loved Creighton and their camp last Summer. Does she take that offer or does the allure of a (Wisconsin, SMU, Kentucky or Louisville) pull her away? Any shot the Huskers go for another in-state libero??? I’ve always thought this was a Creighton offer and day 1 in the lineup for potential for Bridges.
Josalyn Samuels: The Kairos setter who we weren’t quite sure what the market was for the tallest and longest athlete in the class at the position. Though she had put up some impressive athletic #s right before Vegas conflicting reports kept coming out from different schools and it took awhile to kept everything to calm down. There was even talk of a “mystery foreign setter everyone was interested in” that never ended up being true.
In the end everything ended up being a big old smoke screen and I know believe we are exactly where we ended last summer with Taimane and Samuels, one goes to Texas and the other one goes to Nebraska.
Let’s talk OH destinations:
We have commented for a year now that this is a talented class, but it’s sandwiched in between two extremely talented classes with instant impact makers. Now that isn’t going to stop the top OH’s from demanding less when it comes to NIL/Rev Share, but I do think that may effect where they end up. Meaning you have to look at how you value a #1 OH and what you give them and when. More talk on that coming on the pod. So if you follow this site simply as a college fan don’t flip out when your school doesn’t land who “experts” say is #1. First off, those other sites might be way off on that ranking and second off they may be doing that because of the salary cap hit.
There is going to be several in on A5 OH Leilani Lamar (who has been our #1 PPV since Husker Camp last July) also why we are sticking with our hunch and saying she is a Husker by no later than June 19th.
Maya Ogbogu: The most recognizable OH in this class and the dynamic, explosive powder keg of an arm that has led TAV this season has interest from EVERYWHERE and it has to be tempting to look everywhere, but with Texas A+M being the hot school right now and BOTH her parents being Alumni can Coach Morrison possibly say no to what many argue is the best OH in this class? NO he can’t, she has to be an Aggie.
Now that does bring us to Janiah Burriage and on our prestige chart it brings us to either Wisconsin or Pitt vs. Louisville. Wisconsin had some luck last year in California for sure, but Pitt had some luck in Vegas! But, Burriage is camping at all 3. This is why I wait all year for June! I’m going to do some checking on this, but rivalries make up college sports so let’s hope this one comes down to the good old ACC love fest between Meske and Fish battling it out early in June rather than late in November.
Madlen Gloessner: The Colorado prospect hasn’t updated us much lately, but we have heard reports of her being a RS in college and being recruited more that way? We can’t confirm that and haven’t heard that at all from Gloessner, but that would change things up on the scale and team want chart a little bit. It may just give her position flexibility and the option to take the best school offer as well?
Aubree Svobooda Libero for Houston Jrs will be making the rounds to much of the SEC for camps. This was her first year with Houston Juniors and had quite the season. Just another very solid college prospect and right in that deep pack of liberos that coaches are choosing from this June/July/August. Watch for her though, she has had a terrific season.
Halima Watkins is a great story in the Class of ’28. Burst on the scene last year with NYC Jrs and has been to a couple of NTDP sessions. She is heading XC for camps this year going West Coast for Oregon and UCLA while also checking out Iowa State and then Auburn camps. She redefines the POWER ARM.
Staff Shouts are back this year:
Michigan: Coach Virtue’s Crew once again brought in their highest level (by far) of talent to Select Camp this year (Mix of 28s/29s) and the word was camp had a great feel and tempo. Following their best class ever. Great sign again for Michigan VB.
Mizzou: Deep camp again being one of the first Select Camps held. The Tigers need to rebound with a solid ’28 class and would love an IMPACT RECRUIT, but they brought in some very impressive names again.
Kentucky: We X’d about it. This was hands down the BEST Select Camp EVER for Coach Skinner and the UK Staff and it wasn’t close. Not only ‘28s which they are looking for their next setter (we think), but also with some LEGIT ‘29s. It was fun seeing UK have that kind of USA VB talent in the gym like all of their opponents. Man what damage Skinner could do if he got to coach with an even playing field every year.
BYU: Interviewed Maija Mortensen today and she touched on the camp a bit and loved seeing Charli Niu there also. That would be HUGE for the Cougars if they landed her and potentially Mortensen and Freeland!!! WHAT! But, very deep camp full of talent for the new staff, watch out Top 5 or Top 3 Class potential.
Up In the Air:
Mandela Masimini: VA Juniors MB that is a very interesting case study. Her camps “On Record” are quite a range from Ole Miss, Northwestern and Memphis. Throw in Bama, UVA, but the Maryland and Old Dominion. So you have the regional schools and you have a mix of SEC, B1G and ACC. You also have a very wide Prestige Range from 175 to 109. Then she has camps at UCLA and San Diego? Which are are just kind of out of left field, now I love the UCLA fit because this is honestly one of my favorite under the radar prospects in this class and I reports were high on her from both NTDP’s, but that’s just a unique set up. Literally a bit of everything she will experience everything.
Molly McGovern Dynasty is a prospect that it’s too bad we didn’t get more updates from. Really enjoyed watching her play the two times that we watched her live this Spring and know there was quite a bit of interest from a range of programs it is just hard to gauge what amount. She had very good initial physical TOP Testing scores. We are just intrigued what her Camp Week is looking like and where she is fitting into the OPP puzzle. Solid Midwest option for sure at that position.
Milena Aebischer NC Academy is another name that has kind of blended in to the pack a little bit as we haven’t heard a ton from her in her 16s season, but we know she had interest from two different regions of the county last summer. She moved from the NW Region during her 15s year and joined NC Academy. So when it came camp time she had schools from the Pacific NW and the ACC/SEC taking looks at the solid prospect.
Many more names, thoughts and updates to come as we hear from campers on the road and in the air and even on the trains across the country during Camp Week ’26.
