Program Prestige: Breaking Down the Big XII

Program Prestige: Breaking Down the Big XII

Program Prestige Rankings:

Breaking Down the New Big XII and it's new look.  You can obviously see be taking a quick look at the conference's PPV Scores compared to the other P4's that the Big XII is not the #1 Power Conference when it comes to volleyball.  The scores are consistently lower and especially after the Top 2 programs, you can see an immediate drop into the 100s.  That is exactly why I thought Mat Ullmer taking the Kansas job one year ago made so much sense.  Come in and dominate recruiting wise, host 2 rounds every year and now you are automatically a Sweet 16 program each season.......But, there is a new threat out of Texas that is making some immediate and national noise all of the sudden so let's check out the Big XII.

Kansas PPV 216 Program MO: Black Arrow Up:

Though I honestly thought the new regime would be in on a couple bigger name pins in '27 they did land their setter of the future and much rides on how Marissa Jones pans out in Lawerence and the transfers the Jayhawks have brought in so far.  The jury is still out on recruiting, but honestly I thought they might make a bigger splash in year one.

Baylor PPV 192 Program MO: Black Arrow Up

Baylor gets every kid in Texas to camp.  Their '27 class was solid and they did land what we think could be an All-American OPP in '26.  They have landed one-offs in each class that have superior talent.  Do the complimentary pieces work out to make the classes elite and can Baylor put a deep class of high-level prospects together?

TCU PPV 184 Program MO: 2x Green Arrows UP

TCU's average came out to be 184, but we used a veto here and bumped them up to 205 at least.  This program is in on some elite prospects and they have many interested names camping with them they simply haven't had before.  We have already addressed their portal success.  Watch out for a TCU run at the top of the Big XII very soon.

Kansas State PPV 163 Program MO: Black Arrow Up

I have loved the growth in Manhattan for three straight years now and their PPV Prestige Growth refelcts that.  This is a steady program growing each and every season and attacking the proper level of athletes that they can land and win with.  I really like their recruiting strategy the past two seasons and it has really paid off for them.  Look for their targets in '28.

Arizona PPV 162 Program MO: Black Arrow UP

Zona picked up a class that looks like a nice base on paper with the '27 class, but this is a program that is in a struggle to keep spending wise.  I love the staff and what they are attempting to do, but they are going to have to get more admin support to keep up with even ASU in state let alone the rest of the Big XII going forward so it will be interesting to see how the Wildcats follow up the '27s this June/July.

West Virginia PPV 161 Program MO: Black Arrow UP

This is one of the program success stories in P4 if you look back two years.  When Coach Greeny and staff were taking over there was a major rebuild to do in Morgantown.  They are doing that job and improving talent with deep classes, but also deep classes that have solid talent included in them.  They have also hit different parts of the country with their verbals so they are setting up different pipelines.  One of the Top 10 recruiting jobs nationwide in the past two years.

BYU PPV 158 Program MO: Equal Signs No real movement

The Cougars have had quite a bit of turnover the past couple of years and even one of the biggest talents they brought in (Suli Davis) has transferred already.  Now the hire of the new HC appears to be a good move as they have kept a couple athletes looking to leave of decommit so that is a positive start for BYU.  Their future IS THE '28 CLASS.  With two true All-Americans and year 1 starters the Cougars have to put the lock down on in-state talent and they move up to 1 or 2 in this conference immediately.

Colorado PPV 146 Program MO: Black Arrow UP

I've stated before that I love the move the Buffs made in '27 going out and getting a commitment from the #2 overall OPPO in the Class of '27, when many schools moved off of her because she was recovering from a knee injury.  Given 18 months to recover before reporting that is a potential steal and if she's back to pre-injury health.....then you could be looking at a multi-year All-Conference player.

Utah PPV 143 Program MO: Green Arrow UP

New coach and landing the correct Utah prospect the past two seaons I believe have set up Utah for sustained success in volleyball.  But, you should look for an improved recruiting tick with their new HC if you are an Utes fans.

Iowa State PPV 139 Program MO: Equal Signs meaning No Real Movement with overall class.

Cyclones continue to overachieve with the athletes they are given and they move forward as the come off a solid year in the Big XII.  A quietly successfull season as they climbed back into the Big XI convo last season.

UCF PPV 132 Program MO: Black Arrow UP:

This has been two solid classes for UCF and improvements as far performance on the court and in recruiting.  The program is moving up yearly on the court.  Watch for them ad who they are talking with immediately in June kicks off.  Next step will be to land a "bigger impact player".

Arizona State PPV 127 Program MO: Red Arrow Down

I know they have won and I know they do well in the portal.  I also know who the heck cares as long as you win!  Arizona State has done very well in the portal, but they have really struggled with the timelines of landing high school prospects, especially in their talent filled back yard.

We will follow closely this Summer and see if they change at all???

Texas Tech and Cincy round out the Big X11 and have a lot of work to day simply to moving up in the world standings.  They need to find some younger girls that give them some confidence to get a big kill at deep times in a match.  Both programs have a long way to go to become relevant in conference and post-season conversations.
