One of the reasons I have always insisted on continuing to be the one who uploads every initial Player Profile, since the start of this company, is that I want to at least learn the initial story of every athlete that takes time to sign up for our site (Officially over 1000 now in 3 classes) I want to learn at least something about them that I will hold onto so when I see them at a tourney or run into their parent in a hotel or even in college it rings a bell and I think "that athlete spent 10 minutes and $20 to invest in my website and tell me part of their story." that's pretty cool to me still to this day and I think it's what makes VBAdrenaline different is we do try and know something about the athletes.
Tonight, I sat down to do 15 other things and a highlight video request and a new Player Profile came to my inbox and I know I won't forget these. Under the notes section it said "coming off broken pelvis been out 8 weeks, coming back because I have 3 college camps this week." Have YOU ever broken your pelvis? It didn't say "I was fully cleared to play and came back just in time for 3 camps this week." It said came back BECAUSE I have 3 college camps this week. My goodness people it's a broken pelvis here now Maeryn and I didn't get into the severity of the injury, but Google broken pelvis and here is the first thing that comes up
A pelvic fracture is a break in the bony ring connecting your spine and legs. While minor fractures from falls in older adults often heal with rest, high-impact accidents like car crashes can cause severe, life-threatening internal bleeding or organ damage and require emergency surgery
I don't think that for TPV '28 OPP Maeryn Pettit the injury was that severe, but it wasn't a rolled ankle and 8 weeks later she's back in time for USA Nationals because she just had to play with her team and it was painful and she has 3 college camps this week. Now I dramatize that's what I do I'm a storyteller, but I'm here telling these girls to take their time, wait till January, sit out HS season, make sure you are completely healed....anytime I hear someone is getting ready to come back from an injury to play club ball or go to summer camps and all they tell me is "I'm way ahead of schedule with me rehab"
Maeryn will attack the camp circuit this week like so many other '28 hopefuls still in search of their offers and trying to impress a coaching staff. But, like so many athletes with a dream she will do it batter and bruised and maybe coming back a bit sooner than she should. It has amazing me doing this for 5 years now how many athletes hurry back so they can attend a camp or play at nationals or state, etc. Mostly so they can be seen by coaches for recruiting. Professionally I still think waiting until you are fully healed and 100% ready is smarter, but I've also never had a 15-16 year old daughter and to tell her she had to wait either. It's just so telling of so many of these athletes and how bad they chase this dream.
I really just "met Maeryn tonight"and yeah we cover many of the larger programs quite a bit more I realize that, but it's athletes like her who have a huge week this week and she's not camping anywhere near Texas A+M or Nebraska. It means just as much, probably more!
