SEC volleyball action heated up this week as teams opened conference play with statement wins and standout performances. Let’s recap 5 games and take a look at the individual players who stood out in each matchup.
Ole Miss vs Oklahoma
Ole Miss had to battle in dramatic fashion to claim it’s first ever win over Oklahoma, taking a five-set thriller on the road. Led by Gabi Placide’s 21 kills and Shayla Meyer’s 17, the Rebels leaned on their veteran hitters while setter Mokihana Tufono lead the offense with 46 assists and a career high 6 blocks. The defense was equally impressive holding the Sooners to a season-low .146 hitting percentage. After dropping two of the first three sets, Ole Miss dug deep to force a deciding fifth, where a dominant start powered them to a 15-9 clincher. The hard fought victory marks an impressive win for the Rebels.

Florida vs Alabama
No.19 Florida earned its first SEC win of the season under new head coach Ryan Theis, defeating Alabama in 4 sets. The Gators put together their most efficient offensive outing of the year with 68 kills and a .294 hitting percentage. Led by Jordyn Byrd’s career high 24 kills and freshman Milica Vidacic’s 18. Setter Alexis Stucky kept the offense moving with 53 assists and 12 digs for her fifth double-double of the season, while freshman libero Lily Hayes dominated the back row with 19 digs. Defensively, Florida held Alabama to just a .136 percentage and limited its top scorer to six kills, securing the 3-1 victory and building momentum as conference play moves forward next week.

The Lady Vols had a consistent offense, totaling 49 kills led by Hayden Kubik’s 13 and Paityn Chapman’s 12, while Chelsea Sutton added 11. Setter Caroline Kerr had 36 assists, also raking up 12 digs and 5 kills. Defensively, Tennessee was able to hold the Bulldogs to a .170 hitting percentage and collected 9 blocks, with Sutton and Chapman chipping in four each. Libero Gulce Guctekin anchored the back row with 12 digs as the Vols stayed in control throughout the match, sealing a 3-0 victory to stay hot entering SEC play.

LSU shook off a slow start in Fayetteville to hand Arkansas its first conference loss, rallying for a 3-1 win. The Tigers leaned on their size at the net, racking up 17 blocks compared to just 1 for the Razorbacks. Jurnee Robinson powered the offense with 19 kills, while Nia Washinton contributed 17 more with a steady back row presence. Freshman middle Sanaa Donaie made the most of her first SEC start, pairing 8 blocks with 5 kills, with sophomore Jessica Jones adding 9 blocks. The Tigers closed out the fourth set in dramatic fashion, outlasting Arkansas in a frame that featured 17 ties, to secure their first victory in Barnhill Arena in seven years.

Missouri vs Texas A&M
No. 13 Texas A&M opened SEC play in convincing fashion, taking down No. 21 Missouri in a 3-1 defeat at Reed Arena. The Aggies put forth a balanced effort, Kyndal Stowers lead the way with 16 kills and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla dominated defensively with a season high 10 blocks. A&M set the tone early, jumping off to a quick lead in each of the first two sets to build a 2-0 advantage. Missouri put up a fight in the third, beating out the Aggies in extra points, but the momentum didn’t last long. In the fourth set, Texas A&M stormed out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back, overwhelming the Tigers with a 25-8 finish. With the victory, the Aggies extended their winning streak and opened conference play strong, while Missouri fell to 0-1 in early conference play.
