The Prospect Report

Notes From Nationals

June 26th and 27th

What People in the Game Are Saying

Jammed-packed “Prospect Report,” this is always our First Serve Edition for the incoming “next class up” for their big year of recruiting. Meaning that this is our first deep dive, focusing hard on the Class of 2029.

So much more to come on the class and refining PPVs and adding more Player Profiles and names to our lists in the next few weeks as START FOR US. We will do more and more with this class through the Fall, and we let them grow up more than others, so we hope to have our accurate rankings by TC NIT in February, but here are some impressions of what we saw and what we heard watching and listening around the OPEN Courts the last two days.

Teams of the Week: Austin Juniors 15s

First time seeing this crew live this season, and I loved watching them play together, and you can hear names, and you can even watch film, but when you see athleticism up close and personal, it just hits you different, and the Austin Juniors squad has PLENTY of it!

Austin Juniors Players, we will be adding to our lists

Aviana Mack OH - With one initial match, Mack would be the highest rated PPV athlete on the squad (in the 29 class), highest approach, and most aggressive to attack. Had a nice back row attack and did some nice things when in the system. Passing is inconsistent, but she is a force attacking.

Naomi Niu OH - Physical, but has excellent ups. They had a difficult time finding her in the system to really get her any clean looks to see her truly unleash her best hammer shots, so we will have to go back and watch more, but she has the physicality to play on the college level. Her block is a weapon, also.

Jacqueline Ryan, MB Class of 30 -Ryan will probably have the highest overall PPV of the squad because she is a 2030. She struggled at times with the physicality and speed because this was such a high-level match, but she did some great things on her block (which is already elite) and the offensive routes are going to be there, again timing wasn’t great all day so she didn’t really get involved on that end.

Savannah Johnson OH - Smallest of their attackers, but the highest vertical. Savannah has the most explosions and dynamic liftoff. If she hits any kind of growth spurt, so does her recruiting stock.

Jennah Lee - OH - Works with Johnson for that 3rd OH spot, but not a DS, still more of an attacking OH. Similar to Johnson in the way they play.

TStreet was impressive for the time I was at their court. Again, a team I haven’t seen much of

OH Jimin Seung - Was one of those athletes you see a couple of courts away and have to go see who they are. Strong and will have the physical build to continue to grow into the P4 body to withstand the grind of the college game. Already with the power swing, and she has both body control and explosive take-off. She has to be thrown into this talented mix of gifted Outsides in this loaded class.

Liberty Badorek - Middle - Block technique is an obvious weapon, and her quick reaction time and lift off the ground caused fits for the opponent. More than has triceps up and pushing over the net already.

Addy Underwood - Outside - Was the other pin that immediately jumped out in today’s play.In open play, you are looking for the athletes that are projecting to the P4 colleges, and so you are looking for those that already fit the physical part, and Underwood does that. The ease she gets lift on her takeoff and her block show her athleticism, which is something many coaches are starting their lists with this weekend.

Dallas Skyline:

The defending champs looked that way today, and ***precursor I could name almost the entire team, I believe, but when you play on a super team, you are sacrificing some things, and this is one of those situations. I’m not naming everyone.

Brynli Burgess - Libero - Ok first off, I want to say the character of this athlete EVERY time I have seen her around her parents, or myself, is amazing. Now there has to be some teenager in there somewhere, but ANYONE who knows me knows I’m looking at EVERY top 50 prospects intangibles at some point. I’ve been nothing but overly impressed with Burgess’ 100% of the time observing hers.

Physically, I’m worried she is going to get too strong and big, and the “Libero Society” might get together and vote and make her move to an OH! The girl makes Cala Haffner look average, and that is saying something, but she anticipates so well on the court, and she does not waste steps to dive unnecessarily. Because of her length and athleticism, Brynli makes plays when she is needed, but she’s a thinker and processor in the back. I have to get help before I update her PPV, because we just had the GOAT in ’28, can that score be threatened a year later?

Skye Lincoln - OH - Lincoln was ON today, and that was fun. She has so much hang time that she just outlasts blocks in the air. Lincoln doesn’t get cheated when she swings and has no problem taking different shots. I love the energy and emotion she plays with. If she played Men’s VB, she would really be allowed to have a lot of fun celebrating, but because she plays women's and they don’t get to play by the same rules, she will have to become less fun before college, or the fun police will start waving those little cards at her to keep her under control, lol.

Skye’s change of pace is a great switch-up to her other teammates' taller and more physical approach, but all are effective. She is one who won’t get the “too short for college” because of the approach height at which she plays.

Soleil Rhoades - Opp - So impressive and so physical. Rhoades might not have been as big of an influence as Lincoln in the match/es I watched today, but I would say she projects higher as a college prospect simply because of her all-around ability and height. Rhoades physicality controls so much and can take away that half of the net on defense, and she is versatile enough to run that new “Slot Opposite” position we need to name that can move all over the place and run routes from anywhere. I really loved her as a big-time next-level prospect and am excited to get to the War Room and break down more of her season.

Hayley Hobbs - MB - at 6’2”, Hobbs is more of a defensive threat right now, especially in this lineup. But, she is effective at that job and has the new age long slender build, with arms that go forever and make life miserable for attackers to see or swing clearly through. Strength and adding the explosion to that frame now will be what determines Hobbs' ceiling, at least in the next 18 months, before Verbal Time.

Rockwood Thunder:

I started the day watching Rockwood’s 15s squad, and the early wakeup is difficult for teenagers; you just never know what you are going to get from them. But, I did see a definite “High Ceiling Prospect” athlete that needs to be on the radar of every Plains Region school

Sami Brown - OPP/MB #44 - has played some middle also, but give her another year and let her continue to figure out the OPP, and I think her future is much brighter there. P4 project, and I have to dig much deeper as far as intangibles, but she jumps out as a high-ceiling kid and showed some signs today for certain. Now, there is work to be done, but she has those uncoachable things going for her, and I’ll have to find out some of the T.O.P. physical scores before we get a PPV, but we like her.

Alyssa Psagic - MB #49 - Very good player in the middle and solid Midwest type middle. Interesting to see how she would do in a select type or NTDP type setting with a faster pace offense, but she had a very good day.

Kailey Lane - Libero #22 - Another in that mold of physical bros that can move. Liked her vision and anticipation for her team. Again, a solid base and wasn’t caught off balance or off-guard because of her strength and physicality.

Legacy:

The crew was firing when I saw them today, and I’m going to name a couple of other names as I have talked about Coleman a few times (even though she was Lexi, and this girl is truly special, so go watch her whenever you can because her competitive gene is simply different).

Riley Harrah - OPP - 5’11” - Harrah is physical and defends well. Being terminal on the offensive end vs. the top-end talent could be something coaches look at because of her approach height? Harrah is a very good player. She doesn’t have a player profile, so not knowing her approach, touch, etc., my initial hunch is that it will be what determines her level next year.

Saniya Tucker - MB 6’2” - Tucker looked very, very good today and for me solidified a spot as a top middle in the class. She looked quicker off the bounce and more physical, attacking the block and her attacking opportunities. Wanting to dominate the middle, sometimes a fine line factor determines an offer from the Top 10 schools. Definitely has the physical # to be there.

Charlotte Keys - 6’2” MB - Keys is the interesting one on the roster to me. She rotates matches, but I still look at her as a “high-ceiling” prospect that schools would look at as having a definite future if she gets to say 6’3,” and I believe she’s a decent high-jumper also. But, this could be a great example of someone who benefits if the calendar is moved back next year and has another 6-8 months for coaches to evaluate. Haven’t seen her much and don’t know anything, but when I saw her in Chicago, she just jumped out at me. So, just taking a flyer that we see a different and higher-ranked prospect in January when we look at Keys.

Elevation:

I was able to watch this AM early also, and another squad of some quality, skilled volleyball players that look a bit different than Skyline or Legacy right now, so I will need to see them in January, but their skill sets are there for sure, so they scramble and play very solid volleyball.

Gianna Bruemmer - MB/OH #27 - Bruemmer moves well and can run multiple routes to score. You can see that she has played multiple positions, and she already has confidence going cross or down the line.

Charlie Kate Hatfield - DS/Libero #18 - Solid all around in backcourt for them. Smaller, but mobile, and comes up to help on roll shots very well, and helped out the team several times to keep balls alive.

***So many more players to mention and much better breakdowns of these athletes, of course.

***I’ll be back to get caught up on the past two days' recruiting news later tonight and USC landing a BIG IN-STATE VERBAL.
