Opposites Ready to Jump Up at NIT?
We have already said this is a year to grab that “Franchise Oppo”. Well, here is a list of some on the verge of Level Jumping that should be “Moving on Up” with some good play in KC, you will see them at the next level, and with a really impressive weekend, maybe a 2-story climb by next Tuesday, so watch out and get a highlighter ready…
Taylor Freeland - Opposite Utah -SCVC - Gold Level Prospect
Freeland “is the people’s champ” for top Opp in this year’s Class. She is currently a more solid all-around player at the position than Hodges, but how do the two “project” long-term? Freeland has also had more time at the position. This weekend could go a long way toward simply determining “how high is Freeland’s ceiling?” Regardless, she is a solid Gold Level prospect, which means she is very, very impressive.
Megan Hodges - Opposite California - TStreet - Gold Level Prospect
Athleticism isn’t the question for Hodges. The question is simply how she is looking as a pin and whether she is making progress at that new position. Was she an Olympic-type MB, no? But early on, she was showing growing pains at Opp, so this is just a measuring stick on her growth chart.
Mesa Jameson - Opposite Minnesota - Northern Lights - Silver Level
Does Mesa have the dominating game and all-around game to become a Gold-Level Prospect? She was very good in Lincoln this past July, but not consistently great, so that will be something to watch for in KC: does she take that step of being the best for entire matches now during club season?
Halima Watkins - Opposite New York - NYC Jrs - Elite Red
Piper Pease - Opposite Texas - Alamo - Elite Red
This will be an interesting comparison in KC (especially if they actually face off). Both athletes play a power brand of volleyball on the pin and use explosion and a heavy arm to prove their point. Both are in a similar PPV range and have similar resumes in terms of experience with Big Gym events. They both have similar weaknesses in their games they need to improve also (vertical game, shot selection, block touch, and defense), so for us these two would be very close on the PPV Pyramid and most likely have some similar schools taking looks at them on a national level recruiting wise (especially at NTDP).
Ella Mossbacher - Opposite Florida - OTVA - Elite Orange Level
Kate Clegg - Opposite Texas - Skyline Juniors - Elite Orange Level
Again, another combination of players who have put up impressive stats at the prep level but have games that produce results in different ways in club volleyball. They find themselves in a close group, PPV-wise, heading to KC, both looking to impress and bump up to the Red Prospect Level.
Mossbacher from Florida is a long pin who covers much more ground. She has a nice variety of shots already, but needs to improve her release time and get a bit more snap through when she swings. She will need to find another gear in her approach to learn to get shots off rather than blocks at higher levels as she progresses, but she has serious length and reach, which is an uncoachable skill.
Clegg has that serious snap on her swing and can get a shot off right now. She also moves the ball around on her shots and gets shots off in small windows. She does not have the reach or length of her FL counterpart, so watching her vs. this high-level competition will be a test to see if either of them can make a RED LEVEL LEAP.
