The College PPV: Pre-Season Top Liberos by the Coaches

The College PPV: Pre-Season Top Liberos by the Coaches

Well let the discussion begin, but this time point the blame at people that actually know something about volleyball.  VBAdrenaline sent out PPV Preseason link out to over 25 Division Coaches, allowing them to share with other coaches they thought would enjoy assessing and helping us determine Pre-season baseline PPV (Player Power Values) for as many Division 1 college volleyball players as we could get.

Now *disclaimer* did we get every athlete NO, did we get equal representation from each conference NO did some coaches take it more seriously than others YES did some coaches just not respond YES, but MANY coaches were given the OPPORTUNITY to have a voice to set a baseline for our college content for the season and actually they can go make suggestions on PPV scores whenever they like it's a confidential link that is always open.

But, there opinions are still much better than the media or internet and so these are not based on popularity of a fan base or name they are simply opinions of the coaches that voted (and if a couple of them tried to score their players way to low on purpose our staff raised them accordingly:)

So here is a quick breakdown of group 1 the Top 6 Liberos:

  1. Gillian Grimes- Penn State -PPV 278 (300 is perfect) Grimes played her best when it mattered and had an amazing tourney run.  When she squared off vs. other top bros she came out on top in performance and the scoreboard.  Not as publicized, but respected by coaches for sure.  Grimes was a bit like her squad last season not all of the household names, but outplayed all many at her position the last 6 weeks on the court.
  2. Mya Sands - Missouri - PPV 261 My oh Mya she was a ROCK all season for Mizzou and was the main reason the Tigers had the building season they did.  Winning libero of the year in the SEC was validation what others in the conference thought of her play and the score she received was validation that they still believe in her skills despite all of the returning talent and new additions in the powerful conference.  One of those hidden stars that needs more pub.
  3. Molly Tuozzo - Kentucky - PPV 260 Tuozzo right behind Sands for that top SEC bro has been underrated on the national stage truly since coming into the league as a freshman.  She took over the libero spot about 1/3 of the way through last year and anchored one of the best defenses in America.  Another who lets her actions on the court speak for her and doesn't have the media or social media backing to get her extra attention, but make no mistake Tuozzo is as good as any in the country.  With a brighter light on the Cats this year it could mean alot more accolades for the exact same talented Tuozzo.
  4. Emma Halter - Texas - PPV 251 Emma is that optimist and fire in the Texas backcourt and maybe the most grateful for the reinforcements around her this season in the lineup.  She covered for alot of Texas weaknesses last season and did it with her same positive and energetic attitude.  This is her final go round at Texas and look for it to be a great one.  She will share the spotlight in her back court, but Halter doesn't mind as long as that leads to another Final Four run.  It should lead to a better season and better stats which should move her up this list.
  5. Ava Falduto - Penn State - PPV 244 Falduto goes to maybe any other school in the NCAA and starts and she understands that, which is another reason she gets an extra PPV point or two for being an the locker room presence and teammate.  Culture and TEAM were the difference over TALENT in the national semifinals last season and it was the talent and extra things like sacrifice of Falduto that make her great.  Now you don't make this list because you are good locker room presences she's an amazing ds/bro and if anything happened to Grimes Ava steps in and takes over like that.  She also pushes her in the gym every single day.
  6. Ramsey Gary - Texas - PPV 239 Some would talk if Gary might be more talented than Halter?  I guess time will tell, but again the PPV isn't just about talent there are all factors involved and Halter is the leader of that Texas team no matter who ends up wearing the jersey.  Now how they end up playing that in Austin is interesting, but Gary needs to handle situation like Falduto does at Penn State and push every single day and work to beat out Emma, but also with her to lock up that back row for the Horns an area that was a real weakness last season.  Her talent is no denying and any coach would say that right away.  She has to prove she can do it under the bright lights at Texas and also take the "hate of being a Longhorn from everyone else in American" and that isn't for everyone either.

Yes, yes we realize there are some notables that didn't make the top 6...you will have to wait to see more of the PPV released in our Top Matchups and when we do Conference Head-to-Heads and more as part of our College Coverage this season.  Bring on the Superstars let the Road to KC begin already!!
