The University of Louisville women’s volleyball team kicked off the season in style with their annual alumni showdown, giving fans an early look at the squad’s depth and firepower.
Redshirt freshman outside hitter Ava Utterback stole the spotlight, pacing the Cardinals with eight kills to lead all attackers. Freshman right-side Kalyssa Blackshear followed closely with seven kills while hitting an impressive .462. Fifth-year senior middle blocker Cara Cresse matched that mark with seven kills of her own, showcasing her steady presence at the net.
Running the offense, setter Nayelis Cabello spread the ball around in a balanced 5-1 system that helped Louisville finish the night with a .290 hitting percentage. On the defensive end, junior libero Kamden Schrand anchored the backcourt with a team-high eight digs while holding down the libero spot in all four sets.
Junior outside hitter Chloe Chicoine also made her mark, notching six kills and leading the team in efficiency with a sharp .545 hitting percentage.
The match doubled as a celebration of Louisville’s alumni and a promising preview of the talent the Cardinals will bring into the upcoming season.
