A Close Look at 2029s

Here are some of the notes we are getting on some of the upward movers and impressive prospects (from where their initial PPV Score was) according to people around the game.  We have been observing and collecting info on '29s throughout the summer and fall.

Soleil Rhodes - Opposite - Dallas Skyline - Texas - Diamond Prospect - No Player Profile

First you can tell her incredible velocity and arm speed, superior to anyone we have studied in-depth so far in the class. She is such a physical player who looks college ready today. Her game is played well above the net and it shows in her blocking and how she attacks over opponents blocks and high and deep into the court. She plays at a different level all the time and deserves that “other level” ranking.

Daria McGlaughlin - Setter - OTVA - Florida - Silver Level Prospect - No Player Profile

**We haven’t known a ton about McGlaughlin previously, as she doesn’t have a profile, but she needs to be up in that convo with the class’ best setters. She gets her MB’s involved, is hard to read and keeps great tempo. She does everything you want and is an offensive threat.

Chandler Short - Setter - WAVE - California - Red Prospect - Player Profile

Short puts her hitters in great position to make plays with her location. She reverses the flow well and has great hands. Shows her aggressiveness as an offensive weapon. She is undersized so adding height would definitely increase her stock as it will add to her block and her vertical! Has proven she’s a winner and can lead a team at last year’s Nationals.

Brynli Burgess - Libero - Dallas Skyline - Texas - Gold Prospect - No Profile

Burgess OOS setting is spot on and as good as I’ve seen from a ‘bro. Another huge positive for Brynli is that she is so solid she makes difficult plays look routine and with a quiet body and platform she will go unnoticed for periods of time, she is so smooth. She never leaves her feet for “effect” and is in total control at all times. Such a physical player at the position and so athletic her movements are so natural.

MacKenzie Carr - MB/OPP - Dallas Skyline - Texas - Elite Orange Prospect - Player Profile

Carr is a physical MB and has great moves on her block already. She has good footwork in her transition that is quick and shows athleticism. She needs to continue to work on block discipline and overall explosion in her game to continue to move up recruiting boards this season.

Kayleigh Byrd - OH - PVA - Kansas - Silver Level Prospect - Player Profile

Byrd is a prospect that keeps impressing everyone that watches her. One explosion in all phases of her game. Power in her approach and take off and definitely power in her arm and velocity in her swing. She is high above the net on her block. Has to be one of the best pure athletes in the ’30 class.

Anya Davis - MB - Tribe - Florida - Elite Red Prospect - Player Profile

Davis is one that several of our staff feel is ready to “bust out” as soon as club season opens up. 9.3 TOP score for Height and 9.8 TOP Score for Approach Touch and relatively unnoticed on the camp circuit last summer her ceiling is huge. Skills are definitely developing, but she is a 129” approach type hs kid and could get to 126” for height by graduation and hasn’t hit a college weight room yet. Plus she is going to experience a couple of years at the Open Club level she will be battle tested. Very good chance at being a Silver Level Prospect and definitely one we will be watching closely.

Stella Smith - Libero/DS - Legacy - Michigan- Red Level Prospect - Player Profile

Smith is already very decorated winning a Natty at AAU and being named All-American. She has a very consistent platform in serve/receive and reads short/deep serves quickly. Smith puts her talented setter in-system often.

Sahmone Wadsworth - OH - AZ Storm - Arizona - Silver Level Prospect - No Profile

Wadsworth is a great offensive outside. She makes incredible on-court decisions and has really good vision on where to attack the ball. Sahmone has lower error than most OH’s especially ones that get the workload she does and manages her workload smartly. This is one that can move up to the Gold Level by by the end of season and will be looked at by the Top 20 programs.

Raquel Telly - OH - METRO - District of Columbia - Elite Orange Level Prospect - No Profile

Telly doesn’t have a Player Profile so this was one of the first times for us taking a hard look at her on film. She has a heavy arm and hits the ball hard and can tool the block most of the time effectively. She reads the court very well and has all of the shots to score in a multiple of ways, she makes smart decisions in and out of system. Her defensive game is evolving, but is already a college level offensive threat.

Averie Tatko - Setter - Pittsburgh Elite - Pennsylvania - Red Prospect Level - Player Profile

Tatko caught our eye in film sessions, sticking out because of her hands and the great tempo that she sets for her team.  Those are excellent skills to build off of.  Footwork is still a skill set she needs to develop, but her touch and timing are definite strengths that stood out above many in the region.
