Danielle Lewis – a 2027 libero out of North Carolina – announced her commitment to the University of Missouri yesterday, bumping Dawn Sullivans class to second in the SEC rankings. Lewis plays for Carolina Union Volleyball Club, her layout digs and diving saves making her a standout player for her 16 Open squad. In her 14s season, she was named Capitol Hill Classic Best Receiver, as well as earning the “Dirty Shovel Award,” (meaning she can get anything up off the floor). As a starting freshman libero for Lake Norman Charter School, Lewis tallied 373 digs, averaging 4.2 per set. She was named to the All-Conference team, as well as Defensive MVP. A 2x AVCA Phenom Watchlist Player; Danielle has established herself as a star in the making – I asked her a few questions about why she felt Missouri would be the perfect fit for her.
Q: Did you always have your eye on Missouri or did they win you over during the recruiting process?
A: I always had my eyes on Mizzou ever since the 15u club season. I remember watching them versus SMU and Texas last season and I remember telling my mom I would love to play for that program. Also going to their camp and meeting the coaching staff and the players in real life truly sealed the deal for me.Learning about their team values and culture made it clear Mizzou is home.
Q: What specific aspects of the program made it feel like home and make you compelled to be a part of it?
A: When I visited the campus and played in their gym I just had that gut feeling that I was going to play there. The coaching staff and the current players made it feel like home. The coaching staff truly valued me when I was on campus and took the time to get to know me outside of volleyball. Their team culture is competitive and supportive and it’s the kind of environment where you feel seen, valued and pushed all at once.
Q: What is your biggest goal or aspiration for your collegiate career, and what impact do you hope to leave on the program?
A: My biggest goal is to grow into the player that helps elevate Mizzou. Being able to compete at the highest level and chase championships. But more than anything I want to leave a legacy of being the player that gave 110% in everything and also help build something for the next generation of Tigers!
