Finding her own game: Interview with Lila Jensen

Finding her own game: Interview with Lila Jensen

Lila Jensen first found her love of the sport by watching her sister. What started as an introduction to the sport, eventually became something of her own. For her, the people around her are what makes volleyball so special. Jensen stated that, "if you enjoy who you're playing with, it makes the game more fun."

Having a mentality like that has helped shape her experience with her club and high school team over the last two years. The energy and team dynamic on her club team has helped the group create such a strong chemistry that shows through their game on the court.

As a libero, Jensen has embraced her role as a calm presence on the court. She often finds herself as being the calm and controlled energy on the court, especially during intense matches.

Jensen told Jacobi that the Show Me ASICS Volleyball Tournament was one of her favorite tournaments because it not only was a fun tournament to attend, it helped her and her team realize that they were capable of overcoming  adversity. Instead of being down and letting that affect their game, they came together, found their rhythm and fought their way back.

Jesnsen has also seen significant growth in her own game. One of the most important jobs as a libero is serve receive, and that is exactly what Lila has been focusing on. Her progress has given her more confidence on the court and reinforced the value of hard work while focusing on the details of her game.

Lila also understands the importance of stepping away from the game when she needs. Spending time with friends and family, being outdoors and having time to reset away from the gym is somethings she finds very important.

Jensen's next goal is to become more independent as a player and make the game her own. She plans to continue building, growing and above all, enjoy the process.

For a player who has spent most of her career in the back row, Jensen has found a way to make her presence known.
