This '29 Plains Region Powerhouse is Not To Be Slept On

Whitney Mertens, an Elite Orange Level libero/DS, is quickly emerging as a name to know in the Class of 2029. Her decisiveness and quick feet to the ball are key aspects of her game, making her a threat to any opponent. As a Plains Region baller, Mertens helps to lead Premier Nebraska 15 Gold to their many successes. Most recently, the team secured their Open bid at the Nike Mideast Qualifier. Mertens extends rallies with her consistent ball control and quick reads, giving her team quality touches during transition. As a ‘29, she has already begun to build an impressive resume, with achievements including the 2025 AVCA Phenom Watch List and a 3rd place finish at the 2025 USAV Nationals. Additionally, Mertens is also a stud in the sand as an AAA-rated defensive beach volleyball player.
