Texas survives its first road SEC match of the season after taking down the Dawgs in Athens. Although this is not one of the matchups that was expected to test the Longhorns, they took care of business and kept their streak of sweeps alive with a final score of 25-17, 25-21, 25-20. Here are some key notes and takeaways from the match:
Dynamic Offense
The offense continued looking strong in this one under an attack that has been surprisingly balanced this season. The Horns hit .358 as a team and were consistent throughout the match hitting at least .333 in every set. There were major contributions from Cari Spears (15 kills), Torrey Stafford (14 kills) and Abby Vander Wal (11 kills), all of whom hit over .400.
Turnstile in the Middle
Jerritt Elliott continues to test the waters on all three of his young middles, with each of them seeing the court for at least a full set in the sweep. There may still be some time before the team settles into a consistent choice of starters as the team looks to find its blocking prowess.
Kenna Miller Serving Sub
The senior walk-on outside hasn't seen much court time, but was subbed in the third set to provide a spark behind the service line, and she delivered. She only went back to the service line twice, but Texas point scored twice on each of those trips, including an ace painted on the back line. Miller quietly has the best topspin serve on the team, because it is consistent yet potent.
