Louisville Rolls Past Cal in Dominant Sweep

The No. 6 Louisville Cardinals opened their West Coast road trip in commanding fashion, sweeping California 25-16, 25-5, 25-16 on Friday night in Berkeley. The win improved Louisville to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in ACC play.

The Cardinals were sharp from start to finish, hitting .371 as a team while holding the Bears to a .000 hitting percentage. Louisville’s defense and serve pressure dictated the match, highlighted by a 9-0 serving run from Payton Petersen in the second set — a stretch that saw Cal finish with just five total points. It marked the fewest points Louisville has allowed in a 25-point set since 2007.

Chloe Chicoine led the way with a standout all-around performance, tallying 12 kills on .444 hitting with no errors, eight digs, and two blocks. Cara Cresse added nine kills and four blocks in another efficient outing at the net, while setter Nayelis Cabello dished out 28 assists and contributed three kills and three blocks of her own.

In the backrow, Kamden Schrand’s steady play anchored Louisville’s defense with eight digs and two aces, keeping Cal off balance throughout. The Cardinals’ depth and control never wavered, closing out the sweep with poise to begin their California weekend on a high note.
