Where Top 2028 Setters are Camping Ahead of June 15th

Setters can make or break a team’s success, and no one knows this better than college coaches. Many of the 2028 class’s top setters have been proving their skills at college camps this past week, and some of the programs they’re spending time with may surprise you.

Payton Woodruff - Legacy - Elite Red

Woodruff is up there with the most sought-after setters in this class. We were especially impressed with her performance at the most recent NTDP spring session, and she’s continually moved up our rankings. The Legacy standout spent time with ACC programs this past week, first with Duke and then with Clemson. While Duke’s Charlotte Glass is unlikely to be unseated as the Blue Devils’ starting setter, the opportunity to get a degree from Duke is surely appealing enough to offset some concerns about being a reserve. Meanwhile, both of the setters on Clemson’s roster will be out of eligibility by the time Woodruff is in the NCAA, and a setter of her caliber could be what propels the Tigers from middle of the ACC pack to a serious contender.

Logan McGuire - Kairos - Elite Orange

Coming off a record-setting sophomore season in which she topped her high school’s single-season assists number, McGuire is a full-package setter who is deceptive in her second contacts (especially when she goes over on two) and a gritty floor defender. Most recently, McGuire spent time in the gyms at Arizona, Arizona State, and Tennessee. JJ Van Niel of Arizona State, who has completely transformed the program in only a few years with the Sun Devils, is having no problem drawing top talent like McGuire to his camps. Given his recent penchant for running a 6-2, a strong defensive setter like McGuire might be right up his alley. McGuire will also be joining the upcoming Creighton camp, which has potential to be an excellent fit.

Penelope Reisman - Tri State Elite - Elite Orange

The 6’0” setter has been making the rounds at some P4 and mid-major programs. Reisman got things started at Ohio State, where she spent some time with the program’s current starting setter Mia Tuman. The Buckeyes don’t currently have anyone signed in their 2027 class, so they need a lot of pieces for 2028 and beyond, and an in-state player like Reisman would be a great get. Reisman also spent time in-state at Dayton and then crossed the border into Kentucky to camp with WKU before checking out Duke. With her height and precision, there’s no question that Reisman would be a huge boon at a mid-major program, and could definitely help the Flyers or Hilltoppers continue to stay at the top of their respective conferences.

Scarlett Taylor - Triangle - Orange

Taylor is one of our favorite under-the-radar setters in this class. Playing up on a 17s team, she knows what it takes to compete and wouldn’t be rattled by playing against older kids when she steps into a program as a freshman. She spent the past week making the rounds at two in-state programs: NC State and Duke. NC State in particular has had some very promising younger talent at its camp recently, including 2029 pin hitter Milan Tallman (Silver) and 2030 outside Francesca Sales (Red). With potentially program-changing ‘29 and ‘30 pins on the radar, Coach Wargo-Kearney may be looking for a high-level setter like Taylor to take the ship ahead of their arrivals.
