Watkins Emerging as a '28 Star on the East Coast

​As Halima Watkins says “Sometimes it’s hard to get recognized for volleyball up where we are here in New York so this year has been a little bit crazy.” Halima has some traits that help recruits get some extra attention no matter where you are. First a powerful 6’3” frame at 14 years old and she is left-handed another trait less common in the volleyball world. But, the NYC Jrs. Oppo backs up the size with her play and oh have coaches noticed already. Watkins is quickly emerging one of the stars in the 2028 class on the East Coast.

​She recently attended the Metro VBC college coaches camp and had a great experience. “I had been invited to over 30 select camps, but the Metro camp was perfect because I was able to attend and see so many different schools in one gym. ” Many of the top players on the East Coast were in attendance for Metro's camp.“I was able to work with some of the top college coaches in the nation so I have things to take back and improve on now for the Summer.”

​Watkins attended her first NTDP session this Spring and will attend in the Summer so she is roped in that system and will continue those most likely the next few years, working with that group of college staffs and receiving that evaluation, which should give you an idea of Halima’s ability level and potential. Her physical build and the way she attacks from the right side is impressive. When you look at her TOP Scores she is already scoring in the 9.5s across the board for all three physical sub tests so she passes the test in that measure as well.

​Though Watkins won’t be attending many select camps in person, she was correct the invites were there and they were from a long list of the traditional names you would look for from an athlete with a 210+ initial PPV score.
