The Spring Portal is Almost Open - Here are the High-Profile Athletes Entering

The spring transfer portal officially opens tomorrow, May 1st, but several high-profile volleyball players have already announced their intention to enter. We’ll be tracking and doing recaps of transfer news once the portal is truly open, but here’s a roundup of the big names we already know are looking for a new home.

Ava Utterback - OH - Louisville

Given that she sits behind Payton Petersen, Chloe Chicoine, and possibly now Chloe Meester, it isn’t surprising that Ava Utterback is looking for a new home. Due to redshirting her freshman year, she has three more years of eligibility. With her being from Indiana, one has to wonder if she will look to join the Hoosiers. That would certainly help Steve Aird’s team out, considering Indiana has two outgoing transfers on this list.

Mallory Matheny - S - Indiana

After not even a full season at Indiana, setter Mallory Matheny has announced she is looking elsewhere to truly get her college career started. We had Matheny, who played for Mintonette in Columbus, Ohio, listed as a Silver-level prospect. With Serbian setter Teodora Krickovic having three more years of eligibility, it’s possible that Matheny is looking to go somewhere she will have more opportunities to start. However, it may also indicate there’s trouble brewing in Bloomington, because she isn’t the only Indiana player transferring out this spring…

Charlotte Vinson - OH - Indiana

After her freshman season in which she saw limited playing time, Charlotte Vinson is looking elsewhere. The rising sophomore made headlines for overcoming what could have been a fatal battle with toxic shock syndrome, and she’s also proven—when given opportunities—that she can be a huge asset on the court. Her biggest weapon thus far has been her serve, but she’s shown potential to be a well-rounded player.

Sami Blackett - OH - Utah Valley

Sami Blackett has been a starter at UVU in both her freshman and sophomore seasons, averaging 4.2 points per set. Though her hitting efficiency hasn’t been especially high in either season, she has a lot of potential, as demonstrated by her 2025 season high 22.5 points vs. BYU. She also broke UVU’s single-match kill record during her freshman season, scoring 33 against California Baptist.

Destiny Ndam-Simpson - OH - Creighton

Given Creighton’s inbound transfer of Trinity Shadd-Ceres, it’s not a surprise that Destiny Ndam-Simpson is looking elsewhere for playing time. She’s mostly been a reserve player in the event of injuries to other players, like in her freshman season when she filled in for Norah Sis. After earning a medical redshirt during the 2025 season, Ndam-Simpson should have two years of eligibility left. In her time at Creighton, she racked up 249 kills (1.9 per set) on a .185 efficiency.

Kaylie Kofe - S - Utah State

The 2025 Mountain West Player of the Year is looking elsewhere for her junior season. Last season, Kaylie Kofe received an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention for setting her team to a .274 efficiency, earning them an 18-0 MWC record and the program's third-ever NCAA tournament win when they upset Tennessee in the first round. This could be a great pickup for a middle-of-the-pack P4 team looking for an experienced setter to run a 5-1.

Other names in the portal

Here are some additional players who have shared their intention to enter the portal.

Sydney Maue - OPP - Arkansas: A high-flying lefty who could be a difference-maker for a mid-major program. She didn’t see a ton of playing time during her freshman season with the Razorbacks, but the athleticism and potential is there.

Claire Logeais - MB - Dayton: 6’3” middle blocker and rising sophomore. Didn’t see much playing time but averaged over 1 block per set in the A10 when she did.

Adison Ozuna - OH - Texas State: 5’11” outside hitter who saw limited playing time during her freshman season from Texas State. She’s originally from Texas so it will be interesting to see if she decides to stay in-state or broaden her horizons.

Lilli Etter - S - Boise State: Set in a 6-2 offense at Boise State, averaging just over 6 assists per set this past season. A rising junior who has seen a lot of court time in her two years at Boise State. May be a valuable 5-1 setter for a like program or be a good, experienced player to have on the bench for a program with an already established setter.

Lauren Larkin - MB - Utah State: Three-time Mountain West freshman of the week honoree during her redshirt freshman season. Averaged 1.25 kills per set, a .391 hitting percentage, and just shy of 1 block per set in the Mountain West.

Sophie Danielson - OPP - Utah State: Redshirted her first season and saw limited court time in 2025. Originally from Washington, so she may be looking to move closer to home or go to a program where she’ll see more action.

Brooke Crummel - MB - Cincinnati: A 6’3” redshirt freshman who started her career at Liberty before transferring to Cincinnati in 2025. Played in 77 sets averaging 1.4 kills per set and .9 blocks per set in the Big 12.
