The Fighting Illini look to extend their win streak to seven in the Big Ten

The Fighting Illini look to extend their win streak to seven in the Big Ten

Don’t look now, but the Illinois Fighting Illini are in second place in the Big Ten behind the first-place Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Illini are 7-1 in league play and on a five-game winning streak, including a victory three weeks ago over then No. 10 Purdue,

The Illini will get a chance to extend their winning streak when they face Purdue again and then Michigan.

If they can pull off the upset again against Purdue at home and then defeat the Wolverines to extend their win streak to seven, it puts them squarely in position to be in contention not only for the Big Ten title but to host NCAA matches in December.

The Illini made their first NCAA Tournament appearance last year, which was their first time in three years.

Illinois volleyball history isn’t talked about much, but they have one of the best programs in Big Ten history. The last time they made the Final Four was in 2018, and before that 2011.

They’ve won four Big Ten titles, their last coming in 1992, and it looks like head coach Chris Tamas may have a team that could make another run this year.
