Scrappy Six Future Libero/DS from the Class of 2027

The Libero/DS position on the volleyball court may not get as much attention as others, but players who play these defense roles are crucial in the success of any team. Whether it is serve receive passing or off blocker defense a good libero or defensive specialist is key to ensure rallys keep going for her respective team. Here are six uncommitted Libero/DS that will do all of that and more for college programs in the near future. 

Ella Horvick - PPV 205 - OTVA Tampa - Plant High School 

Ella is a 2023 7A Florida Girls Volleyball State Champion. She reads the block and the arm swing of the hitter very well. Hailey has a good sense of when to stay back on defense and when to creep up for a possible tip. Horvick does her job well and makes sure to play great court defense. Ella’s impressive college camp resume includes Louisville, Florida, Duke, NC State, Missouri, SMU, and North Carolina. Along with her state championship, some of Ella’s career highlights include being selected for the AAU Junior National Girl’s All Tournament Team, Sunshine Classic and Windy City Qualifier, and being selected as a Prep Volleyball Supernova. This libero will be an asset to any college program come June 15th. 

Cat Nygaard - PPV 197 - TK Volleyball (Atlanta, Georgia) - Girls Preparatory School 

Cat is a scrappy defender from Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is a good defender and serve receive passer with an impressive ability to read the block and pick up loose balls. Cat holds down the back row well and knows when to hand pass or forearm pass in each given situation. Her college camp resume includes the University of Florida. Cat’s career highlights and accomplishments include AAU 2024 Nationals All Tournament Team, AVCA Phenom Watchlist 2024, All Tournament Peach Tree Classic 2022, 2023, 2024 SRVA High Performance Training Camp 2023, and TSSAA DII-AA All Region Team 2023  Defensive Player of the Year Girls Prep 2023. She is an impressive player that will be able to make an impact on a college program in the near future. 

Anela Wailani - PPV 200 - Revolution Volleyball Academy - Pinnacle High School 

Anela stands at 5’10” which in Libero/DS terms is taller leaving her with a length advantage when it comes to covering the court more efficiently. She is a solid serve receive passer and defender. Her taller stature allows her to have the ability to cover more tips and well as reach the ends/corners of the court if need be. Anela’s camp resume includes Long Beach State and The University of California, Davis. Anela’s career highlights include All District PVUSD Team - Volleyball 2024;  Pinnacle HS - Defensive Player of the Year 2024, VB Adrenaline - 2027 Libero List, and AIA - 6A Desert Valley Recognition "All Region 1st Team" 2024. Come June 15th and beyond Anela will be a defensive asset for her chosen college program. 

Lila Green - PPV 178 - Wave Volleyball - Torrey Pines High School 

Lila is a scrappy defender that is not afraid to dive and lay out in order to save a ball. This Torrey Pines native is a strong defender and the court, but can also pass dimes on some tricky serve receive balls. Lila has the ability to not only get up hard driven balls, but she able to dive and get to short balls and setter dumps which is an impressive skill set to have. Her college camp resume includes Indiana and Pittsburgh. Some of Lila’s career highlights include 1st Team All Tournament GJNC 15 Open by Prep Volleyball, Torrey Pines High School 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, and JVA Watch List. Keep you eyes out of Lila and where she lands come June 15th. 

Taylor Berg - PPV 173 - 1st Alliance Volleyball - Marist High School 

Taylor stands at 5’10” which makes her tall for the libero position, but what makes her standout is her ability to play other positions. Taylor also is a solid outside hitter which brings front row experience to her all around game which could come in handy someday playing the back row. Besides her offensive skills, she is a solid middle back defender and serve receiver making her an asset on the court. Her camp resume includes University of Colorado Boulder, Campbell University, and Illinois State University. Some of her career highlights include ​2024 Special Mention Durango Classic (HS), 2024 Great Lakes Region High Performance Team, 2024 JVA Watchlist, Triple Crown KC: 15U Open- Honorable Mention, and AVCA Phenom Watchlist 2024. Taylor’s all around game will make her a solid addition to college programs. 

Alixandra Klien - PPV 171 - Houston Skyline - Deer Park High School

Alixandra is a Texas native with impressive defensive and serve receive abilities. She is a scrappy defender that is not afraid to get on the floor in order to save the ball. She holds her platform and angles the ball well on serve receive making sure the passes are to the setter. She is an asset in the backcourt, but also has an all around skill set that will set her apart from other Liberos/DS in her class. Additionally she plays some beach volleyball which is not easy and is for sure something that enhances her indoor game. Some of her career highlights include 2024 AVCA Phenom Watch List; 2024 DPHS-N Female Athlete of the Year, 2023 USAV National Champion 14 Patriot; 2023 TX 6A UIL Volleyball Regional Semifinalist, 2023 USAV National Champion 14 Patriot; 2023 TX 6A UIL Volleyball Regional Semifinalist, and 2024 Prep Dig Cross Court All-Tournament Team; 2023/2022 AVP & USAV Beach Nationals Qualifier. Come June 15th look out for where she is headed.
