New Player Profile's: 2028-2030 Talent Update

Abigail Chang | 2030 | Setter | Metro MD | PPV 100

Chang is a setter in the 2030 class who has been added to our watchlist as we continue tracking her development through club competition and future camp opportunities. At 5'9" with a 112 approach touch, she brings a solid foundation to the position and will be a player we continue to monitor as her game evolves. As a younger prospect, the focus right now is on gathering more evaluations and seeing her compete in a variety of environments before assigning a more complete college-level assessment. The physical tools and early indicators are there, and additional exposure through camps and future competition will help provide a clearer picture of her long-term trajectory. For now, Chang carries a watchlist PPV of 100 and is a player we'll be following closely as she continues to develop within the 2030 class.

Maija Mortensen | 2028 | MB | SCVC | 287

Mortensen is one of the premier middle blockers in the 2028 class and continues to establish herself as a nationally recognized prospect. The 6'4" middle has already compiled an impressive résumé that includes selection to the 2026 USA U17 National Team, a 2026 6A State Championship, 2026 All-State First Team honors, 2025 All-State Honorable Mention recognition, and a 2025 USA Nationals All-Tournament selection. Physically, Mortensen possesses the type of profile college programs covet at the position. She combines elite size with a 123 approach touch and 120 block touch, allowing her to impact matches on both sides of the net. Her length, timing, and ability to control the middle make her a consistent force offensively while also providing a significant blocking presence. Recruiting interest has continued to follow her success, with camp opportunities at programs such as Wisconsin, BYU, and Texas A&M, among others. Widely regarded as one of the top middle blockers in her class, Mortensen continues to strengthen an already impressive national profile through her production, physical tools, and success at every level of competition.

Mila Smith | 2029 | OH | Metro | 130

Smith is an emerging outside hitter in the 2029 class who has already made a significant impact at both the club and high school levels. As a freshman starter and 6-rotation outside hitter for Flint Hill School's varsity team, she played a key role in helping the program capture the VISAA Division I State Championship while competing against some of the strongest teams in the state. Her production and all-around contributions stood out throughout the season. Smith led Flint Hill in aces, finished tied for second on the team in kills, and ranked among Virginia VISAA's top servers, finishing #14 in serving aces. She also helped her club team earn two USAV Girls Junior National Championship Open Division bids, adding valuable experience on major competitive stages. At 5'10" with a 113 approach touch and 107 block touch, Smith continues to build a strong foundation as a complete outside hitter. Her ability to contribute in all six rotations, combined with early success at the varsity level, makes her a player to watch as she continues to develop within the 2029 class.

Banks is an opposite/right-side hitter in the 2030 class who has already begun making her presence felt at the net. Standing 5'10" with a 115 approach touch, she brings a solid physical foundation to the position and has shown the ability to impact matches with her front-row play. One of her early highlights came with earning Best Blocker honors in 2026, reflecting strong timing, instincts, and effectiveness as a net defender. Blocking is a key part of the right-side role, and Banks has already shown she can be disruptive in that area. As she continues to gain experience and expand her overall game, Banks is a player to keep on the watchlist within the 2030 class. She is a two-time NTDP attendee, reflecting early recognition and consistent involvement in high-level training environments. She brings solid size to the pin and has continued to build her game through competitive reps and strong developmental settings. Her camp experience and NTDP background have helped her expand her overall feel for the position while continuing to refine her offensive impact. Byrd remains a developing 2030 outside hitter with strong physical tools and a growing foundation built through repeated exposure to top competition. Baty is a 5'11” outside hitter in the 2030 class who is currently on the PPV watchlist as she continues to build her game and gain experience at the club level. She earned recognition as Most Improved while playing with TX Fury in 2021, showing early signs of growth and progression in her game. At 5'6", she brings effort and competitiveness to the middle position, with continued focus on expanding her overall impact at the net as she gains experience against stronger competition. Her development path remains centered around learning, reps, and exposure as she continues to build her skill set. Lee is a dynamic and explosive middle blocker in the 2030 class currently on the PPV watchlist as she continues to develop through her early club career. She is gaining valuable experience and building a strong foundation in the middle position while competing through her 13s season. She has already built an impressive résumé that includes 2x AAU All-American honors, an AAU National Championship, and back-to-back AAU Nationals All-American selections in 2024 and 2025. She brings strong control and reliability to the setter position, with the ability to run an offense efficiently and keep hitters in rhythm. Her production at the varsity level has also been a major indicator of her impact, highlighted by 1,200+ career assists as a sophomore along with First Team All-District recognition in 2025. At 5'11”, Garner adds size and a physical presence at the position, helping her be effective both offensively and defensively at the net.
