Get to know the Metro Libero, Laila Chadwick. Chadwick is a highly sought after 'bro in the 2027 class with a PPV of 207 who is currently playing up at her club on the 17-1 team. She is a fierce defender and someone you want in the back row, making hard plays look easy and has endless pursuit on the ball. I had the chance to ask Laila a couple of questions about her to get to know her. Hope you all enjoy these fun facts about Laila as much as I did!
- What is your favorite volleyball memory so far in your career?
Winning Capitol Hill my 14s season because we were literally the LAST metro team to play at the tournament and we were losing. Then you just see this giant crowd of metro players and parents walking from the other side of the convention center to our court and they just surrounded it. They cheered us on for the rest of the game and we ended up winning by 2 and all the players rushed our court. It was so cool!!
- If you could play any position other than your own, what would it be?
Probably an outside because I’ve had some experience in the past and I feel like as i’ve grown as a player, my IQ has grown not only as a libero. So i think that added IQ would help me as an outside.
- Do you play any other sports? Or If you could play any sport other than volleyball at the high level you are at what would it be?
Not currently, last club season I ran track. I would definitely play football because I grew up in a football family so I have some knowledge there. I also think my arm would be pretty good as a quarterback or tackling a bunch of people as a safety.
- What were you most looking forward to this club season?
I’m looking forward to Nationals since we qualified for Open!! I’m super excited to play against the best of the best there!
- Do you have a favorite volleyball skill? Stuff block, big kill, out of system set, etc.?
I would say a run through on defense because it shows my determination. Last season I ran through a table to save a ball and I did get it up, so that was pretty fun!!
- Who is your favorite NCAA volleyball player?
I don’t really have a favorite since I like to watch a lot of people. Some of the ones I enjoy watching is Elena Scott and Gillian Grimes since they are super scrappy on defense and just really, really good!
- What do you like to do outside of the volleyball gym? Hobbies?
I like to hang with my friends and watch movies with my family! Sometimes I dapple in some art, but it really depends on my mood.
- Do you have a role model or an influential person in your life? Who and what's the story?
My parents are my biggest role models because they have raised me to be the best version of myself and are teaching me how to be a great woman. They’ve always supported me, no matter what—whether I was switching sports, struggling with schoolwork, or just dealing with personal challenges. Even right now since I’m going through recruiting, they take time out of their days to help me with finding info on schools or practicing questions. Their patience and everlasting love inspires me every day.
- If you had to give advice to younger girls what advice/tips would you give?
I would say the biggest piece of advice I can give is love the grind. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. The grind is the hard work you put in every day—practice, sweat, mistakes, and all. Even when it’s tough, keep pushing, stay positive, and trust that you’re getting better. Don’t just play for wins, enjoy the process of growing. That’s where real improvement happens.
