Early NTDP Watch List
Heading into Colorado Springs it’s a different vibe this round. Many new first timers, with the U17 National Team not in attendance, that has opened up new spots for some fresh faces and has also some people around in other groups. So our “Watch List” is about match ups as much as individuals we are looking at on Day 1.
U17 Group
Brooklyn Horton - Middle Texas - Club: TAV
*Simply excited to see more of Horton in a big gym setting as we don’t honestly hear much about the TAV girls during the season and we haven’t received any real reports on Horton with her not having a profile so this will be a great opportunity just to focus and watch what she can do.
Jensen Kubik - Outside Missouri - Club: Adidas Dynasty
*We really want to spend more time locking in on Kubik, especially on her attacking. We want to see if she stands out at all in the “Big Gym” setting as our last two times watching her (winter NTDP and Dream Team Camp) she has been good, but not a standout and others have graded her differently so want to see if or what we are missing?
Gillian Pfeiffer- Middle Missouri - Club: HPSTL
*We have been waiting to watch Pfeiffer again since Windy City, especially in a Big Gym setting. Excited to see how she does against elite competition and if her strength and physical game matches up. She was very good in Chicago.
Milan Tallman - OPP Georgia - Club: A5
Tallman is a 2029, but we haven’t seen her live since her return to the court from her serious injury so we can’t wait to see what this literal phenom can do. It’s been a long road back.
Audrey Sutherland - Outside Nevada - Club:
We talked about Sutherland a couple of months ago and she is a high ceiling prospect in this class. Getting in front of college coaches at this level again is great for her. It will be interesting to see how she does up against this level of competition again.
Avery Minor - OPP Minnesota - Club: Minnesota Select
*Minor is another OPP that is that “pack” with a few others right now so it will be a show-me type weekend for her just to see competition wise what she has. Not sure if Michigan St. would be any kind of a fit for her, but with HC of the Spartans Kelsey running the session it could legitimately be a tryout for Minor.
Mandela Maimini - Middle Virginia - Club: Virginia Juniors
*Masimini was so impressive in December at NTDP we want to see her light it up once again. Show her agility and athleticism at the position and prove she can be a blocking force, but also an offensive weapon from the middle position.
U19 Group
Katie Mitchell - Outside Virginia - Club: METRO
*This will be an excellent test for Katie as she is paired up with the older group and some of the girls that are on their way to college in a couple of months. It will be interesting to see how she does up against their physical play and the speed, but she is a competitor.
Tegan Loechler - OPP Wisconsin - Club: Milwaukee Sting
*We had heard rumblings and Loechler will be playing this training series as a PIN and NOT a SETTER. This is the correct move for her if this is what she loves and it gives coaches a chance to truly see her compete as a pin.
Chayse Courtney - Outside California - Club: Vision
*We haven’t watched Courtney in person since February so it will be great to focus on her again and see how she improved since the start of the year and how she does vs. other elite competition.
Notes:
I personally like some of the battles in the older group, especially when you look at setter and I’m going to be curious to watch some of the competition at Opp as well. Not only between ‘28s, but also between ‘28s / ‘29s mixed together in the group. Very talented practice group.
Much more to come this weekend from Colorado Springs. Follow along and subscribe.
