ACC Recruiting Hot Starts: Pittsburgh, North Carolina, SMU & Wake Forest

Several programs from the ACC are already making news with early commitments that bring talent as the 2027 recruiting cycle gets underway. Schools like Wake Forest, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, and SMU have already locked in key players for their future rosters. These recruits, who range from high-IQ setters to powerhouse hitters, are a great place to start for programs hoping to advance in the competitive conference.

Pittsburgh’s class features standout outside hitter Peyton Kubik, known for her powerful and consistent hitting, and middle blocker Kyla Williams, who brings impressive size and blocking ability.  Kubik’s offensive firepower is unique, as many schools had projected her as an outsider, and others left her in her natural opposite position.  So the Panthers have flexibility in training the Kansas star.  Both players have strong competitive backgrounds and will help Pitt maintain their status as ACC contenders and make a deeper NCAA run.

North Carolina begins its recruiting with setter Marlie Smith, a player valued for her court awareness, quick decision-making, and leadership. Smith fits perfectly with Coach Joe Sagula’s fast-paced offensive style, adding precision and energy to the Tar Heels’ attack and providing depth at the setter position.

SMU adds a versatile threat in Brynn Stephens, who can contribute both as a strong outside hitter and a skilled setter. Her combination of height, athleticism, and adaptability will boost SMU’s offense and defense, helping the Mustangs compete at a high level in the AAC and gain national attention.

Wake Forest brings in Isabella Lopez, a dynamic outside hitter known for her explosive attacking and scoring ability from multiple positions. Lopez’s experience at the club level and recognition on the All-State Game Watchlist add much-needed offensive power to the Deacons as they aim for greater consistency in the ACC.
