Create a Player ProfileUT Seeks Private Developers for 'Mini-Moody' as New Home of Texas Volleyball

The University of Texas has announced plans to create a 'Mini-Moody', seeking private developers to take on the project. The multi-purpose arena will become the new home of Texas Volleyball, replacing their long-standing home, Gregory gym. Texas fans have rightfully become attached to their home arena since its first match in 1982, as the gym has amassed a storied tradition of All-Americans, half a million attending fans, and mostly importantly, 4 National Championships. It is one of the premier venues in college volleyball, and is widely respected across the nation as a difficult place to play.
But now it is time to turn a leaf into a new era of Texas Volleyball. This announcement is a representation of the rapid growth of the sport and the value that volleyball brings to the Texas Athletics department. The new yet-to-be-named arena will hold approximately 6,000 seats, up from 4,000 seats in Gregory gym. A larger arena, a better jumbotron, better seats, concessions, and bathrooms for fans, and a bigger spotlight to showcase the best college volleyball in the country.
This new 'Mini-Moody' will be placed right next to the actual Moody Center, Texas Basketball's 10,000-seat arena built just three years ago. Similar to the Moody, it will be a multi-purpose arena available for concerts and other events on days it does not host Texas Volleyball matches, and will also be adjacent to student-athlete housing. The completion of this project is likely still a few years away, so Longhorns fans still have some time to relish the final days of Gregory gym. But this is an exciting step forward for the program.
