Three Programs Look to Sway Mortenson This Week

The biggest "surprise prospect" to the national scene this season comes from Utah, at least from the SCVC team in Utah. It's a coin flip from there, but Maija Mortenson, the dominant Middle Blocker who rose from relative unknown in December to a Top 3 at her position (and DEEP Position at that), has three powerhouse programs ready to roll out the red (and blue) carpet for her this week in hopes of landing her verbal commitment next week.

Our newest Player Profile on the website should get plenty of "unofficial love" as heads to Select Camps at BYU, Wisconsin, and defending national champs Texas A+M this week.  Each of those schools has Mortenson as their (unofficial) #1 target at MB (according to VBAdrenaline).

Maija has come so far in such a hurry and really done so in such a quiet way if you think about it.  Truly staying under the radar and out of the spotlight.  Other than getting love through the NTDP system and recently making the U17 national team, she is not talked about by national ranking websites (until very recently) other than us, but A+M and Wisconsin have shown interest for quite some time, and of course, BYU has been in on Maija for a while.

Everyone has been convinced that it is a done deal and the Utah standout should be a slam dunk for the Cougars (Maija's mom's alma mater), but if any schools could persuade her to reconsider, it would be Wisconsin, with Sheffield having a past connection with the family, and Texas A+M, no program and coach has more momentum than Mortenson in the country.

This week could tell quite a bit for Maija's future, but also truly dictate how the 2028 Recruiting Class goes for the rest of the MB's in the group.
