Create a Player ProfileLouisville Volleyball Eyes Strategic Options in the Transfer Portal

As winter arrives, the NCAA volleyball transfer portal is officially in full swing, and Louisville appears poised to evaluate targeted additions that could elevate next year’s roster. With several positions already secured and others in transition, the Cardinals may approach this offseason with a clear sense of both needs and opportunities.
Stability at Setter and in the Back Row
With starting setter Nayelis Cabello returning and freshman Blair Thiebaud set to join the program, Louisville is unlikely to pursue another setter through the portal. The backcourt also remains solid. Senior libero Kamden Schrand returns alongside defensive specialists Hannah Kenny and Molly Urban, and the Cardinals will also welcome an incoming freshman libero. As a result, defensive depth does not appear to be a pressing area for portal activity.
Potential Upgrades on the Left Side
One position Louisville may look to reinforce is the left side. While the Cardinals have strong young talent, the staff could pursue a more experienced, high-volume attacker to complement the current group and increase offensive consistency. Among the notable names in the portal is Notre Dame outside hitter Morgan Gaerte, an emerging junior with physicality and scoring potential. Other outside hitters who may fit Louisville’s needs include Tennessee’s Star Williams, Vanderbilt’s Kamry Chaney, UC Santa Barbara’s Eva Travis, and Ball State’s Carson Tyler, the reigning MAC Player of the Year.
Evaluating Middle Blocker Options
With the graduation of fifth-year senior Cara Cresse, Louisville will be tasked with filling a major presence in the middle. The portal features several impactful front-row players who could help anchor the position. Tennessee’s Kiki Granberry and Florida’s Jaela Auguste are among the most prominent options, both offering size, athleticism, and proven production at high-major programs.
What Comes Next
As the transfer period progresses, Louisville will be deliberate in identifying players who complement its core while enhancing depth and firepower. With foundational pieces returning and specific roles opening, the Cardinals are positioned to make selective but meaningful moves. Louisville fans will be watching closely in the weeks ahead to see how the roster takes shape for the upcoming season.
