Louisville’s Cara Cresse Selected No. 5 Overall in Major League Volleyball Draft

Louisville fifth-year senior middle blocker Cara Cresse was selected No. 5 overall by the Indy Ignite in the 2025 Major League Volleyball Draft, becoming the first middle blocker taken in this year’s class. The Fort Wayne, Indiana native will remain close to home as she begins her professional career, an ideal landing spot for the veteran standout.

Cresse will join a roster that already features two former Cardinals in libero Elena Scott and outside hitter Anna DeBeer, strengthening the Louisville ties within the Ignite program. The trio will reunite at the professional level after contributing significantly to Louisville’s rise on the national stage.

During her collegiate career, Cresse established herself as one of the country’s most efficient and reliable middle blockers. She played a central role in Louisville’s sustained success, known for her blocking discipline, high-efficiency attacking, and consistent leadership. Her top-five selection adds to Louisville’s growing list of players advancing to the professional ranks and underscores the program’s reputation for developing elite talent.

The Indy Ignite will begin preseason training later this year as Cresse prepares for her first season in Major League Volleyball.
