Joshua Walker was known as one of the better recruiters in college volleyball during his time at Baylor. Joshua Walker was brought back to his alma mater (Hawaii) to make an immediate difference in getting the program back to prominence. Joshua Walker is said to have made strong connections with athletes within the NTDP circuit.
Joshua Walker put all of those theories on blast and put the Hawaii Women's Volleyball makeover on overdrive late Friday with the commitment of Madfrog Libero Bella Osborne.
I didn't see this coming from 50 miles away and I love EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS commitment. I love this for Osborne, I love it for Hawaii and Coach Walker and I love it for the sport of college volleyball.
First to the LOVE for Osborne I have said this for 3-4 classes now, so I better hold true on my word, we need big stars and highly ranked prospects to do THIS to make the sport better and when they do this we (Media) need to freak out about it and make it a huge deal so we encourage others to do this. It creates a balance and some parity and shows top players YOU CAN GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND GET PRAISED AND BE CELEBRATED.
I love it for Osborne because Hawaii is an amazing fan base that will welcome her with open arms and she is special and plays with a fire and a competitive edge that fanbase will respect and appreciate. This is an A+ culture fit.
I love it for Coach Walker because what an absolute Grand Slam to start of his tenure. This is an anchor to build on and around. Bella is an energy bug in NTDP and bet your back side she is already out recruiting for her new teammates.
I love it for volleyball be as I said above we need more of this from top prospects, not being afraid to pass up "B1G/SEC Logo Schools and go somewhere else and be the BOSS. Then go grab a teammate or two and build a tradition there.
Now my curiousity is, is Hawaii done this class or does this start a new trend? Is Hawaii the new trendy "volleyball vacaction destination for 2-3 top prospects every class?" Does Osborne have a buddy or two she is working with Coach Walker today on convincing to join the team? OR maybe it takes until January and someone joins the class then? Wait and see, but I feel like this is more than just a coincidental one off commit. Operation Hawaii VB 2.0 is full steam ahead.
