Beast of the Southeast: Day 1 Update

The tournament’s top teams took care of business on Day 1, with all the top seeds on our watch list doing what they needed to do to advance to the Gold bracket on Sunday.

There are some intriguing matchups on the horizon. In 17 Open, if NC Academy takes care of business in their first match, they’ll set up a showdown with A5 16 Gabe that has all the makings of a must-watch battle. Looking further ahead, A5 16 Gabe and A5 17 Calvin are on a collision course and could meet in the final if both continue their runs.

In 16 Open, a potential semifinal matchup between Academy 16 Diamond and Alliance 16 Ren looms large if both teams play to their potential. The story is similar in 15 Open, where Academy 15 Diamond and Alliance 15 Ren are tracking toward a possible semifinal meeting as well.

As expected, A5 is extremely well represented, with multiple teams reaching the Gold bracket across all age groups. The big question heading into Sunday: Will A5 sweep the tournament, or will another program step up and claim a title?
