Will We See a Dream Matchup
Two Old Friends Meet Up in December this year?
In the 2025 season, all eyes have been on two teams: the Texas Longhorns and the
Nebraska Cornhuskers–both undefeated powerhouses are chasing another national title. Beyond
their current dominance this season, these teams have a rich history of rivalry matchups, facing
off countless times in regular-season play and twice in the championship finals in the past 10
years, each taking a title.
Obviously, there’s no official game scheduled between the two teams, but with how
Dominant they have each been so far this season, is it inevitable that they are going to meet on that Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, MO?
A matchup that you know ABC and the NCAA are dreaming of, not to mention a Husker fanbase still stinging from the National Title defeat a couple of years ago.
But, after the talking, the media, and the hype, how would the actual match go? How do the teams actually match up against each other? Let's take a quick look, just for conversation sake to tide us over until a possible later date. Texas runs one of the most well-rounded offenses in the
country, with Ella Swindle leading with her precision and quick decision-making, feeding the ball
to powerful hitters like Torrey Stafford and Freshman phenom Cari Spears on the RS, but with Nebraska’s impenetrable defense from blockers
Andi Jackson and Rebekah Allick, plus a solid back row, will Texas be able to get through?
Nebraska is led by two-time (soon to be 3x) All-American Setter Bergen Reilly, and boy does she have weapons, with, of course, Harper Murray, but also Jackson and Allick, and what they do in the Middle, but a potent RS of their own in foreign star Virginia Adriano. The dynamic back row of the Longhorns will be tested, and the middles will have to be at their best. When you are looking at stars all over the place, it is usually a matter of who makes the least amount of errors. Well, this match has the superstars; there is no doubt.
These incredible teams will definitely put on a high-intensity match, likely pushing it all the way
to a fifth set. Only time will tell how this rivalry matchup will unfold, but when the moment comes,
the ‘Horns definitely won’t back down. You know the Husker upperclassmen remember the natty two years ago, and we just saw what they did to Penn State when they were looking for revenge. It's a whole new level of intensity that the still-young Longhorn team would have to see if they are ready for, but dang, volleyball would be lucky to watch it.
