The Texas Experience: Top Recruits Come To Austin

The Texas Experience: Top Recruits Come To Austin

Texas just wrapped up its Experience Camp, bringing some of the top recruits in the country together over a three-day period just before the recruiting window for the class of 2027 opens on June 15th. This gives players the opportunity to experience what's it's like being a player at UT: seeing how the coaches run a practice, touring campus, and seeing the facilities provided by the university. These players can offer up a unique perspective on how Texas compares to other volleyball programs as they travel around the country exploring their options for college. I asked a few attending players about their impressions from the week and what stood out to them about Texas. Here are their responses:

Josalyn Samuels (2028 Setter - Kairos)

Josalyn's first reaction was that camp was very focused on getting to know the players and their families. She described everyone as super interactive and welcoming, and the way that coaches interacted with players and parents stood out to her.

Tessa Larkin (2027 OH - AZ Storm)

This highly-touted player seconded that sentiment, saying the culture caught her attention and that everybody is "like a family." She described the team as welcoming and cohesive, and that all the coaches are very personable and easy to talk to.

Amari Frazier (2028 MB - AZ Storm)

This player noticed a difference in how the coaches acted on the court as well. She said the staff was highly engaged in coaching individuals, and that pulling players to the side for one-on-one coaching was normal. This level of individualized feedback and small-group instruction was not something she had seen elsewhere.

Camille Presley (2027 MB - Austin Performance VB)

One final takeaway from Camille was the energy and intensity that was present in the gym. Texas players bring their competitive fire to practice each and every day, and that was present at experience camp as well. She enjoyed getting that experience of exactly what it's like to be a player at Texas.
