The Athletic does a profile of Nebraska star Virginia Adriano
The sports publication, The Athletic, did an interesting profile on Nebraska Cornhuskers star Virginia Adriano and her journey to Lincoln.
Adriano, who is from Italy, was one of the first signees of Nebraska head coach Dani Busboom Kelli.
The 21-year-old made an immediate impact when she made a block about last year’s National Player of the Year, Pittsburgh's Olivia Babock.
Adriano played for one of the top professional volleyball teams in Italy, but luckily for her, she was granted three years of eligibility by the NCAA.
She came to Nebraska for a chance to not only get an education but also make money.
“I will be very honest,” she said, ”before all of this happened, I knew college volleyball existed. But I never actually knew a lot about it.”
Coming to a small community like Lincoln has been an adjustment for her, but Adriano doesn’t seem to mind and has adjusted well, according to teammate and friend Andi Jackson.
“She’s adjusted so well,” Jackson said. “I’m really proud of how far she’s come.”
Adriano is still learning the American game, and at times it can be frustrating for a newcomer, but Coach Busboom Kelly says they want her to know they have her back as she continues to gain confidence in her game.
“The main thing for Virginia is feeling that the team and the coaches have confidence in her,” Busboom Kelly said. “Can we set her in big moments?”
As she continues to improve, her time will come.
