Q&A with Jason Robinson: Father of ‘26 Commit Jayden Robinson

Jayden Robinson (PPV 295) – a 6-3 hitter that can kill the ball on either pin and an unbelievable blocking presence –  will be heading to Nebraska next year as a part of the 2026 incoming class. Jayden has spoken to me about being raised in an athletic household, and how her family's support has shaped and carried her throughout her career. Her father, Jason Robinson, is a testament to this. He owns a Sports Performance Training center, as well as being a certified Vertimax trainer – two things which have undoubtedly played a role in her vertical development and overall athleticism.  Just one look at his social media and you can see how devoted he is to his daughter; creating highlight reels, helping promote her within the volleyball world, and actively supporting Jayden in any way possible. I asked him a few questions about his daughter's volleyball journey and his own feelings regarding it.

Q: What has it been like watching your daughter evolve as an athlete and person, and seeing all that she has accomplished?

A: As an athlete it’s been a beautiful progression. She hasn’t always been at the top of lists when this journey of hers began. She hasn’t always been considered one of the best but I truly believe that’s what’s to be appreciated! The beauty in the adversity and as a former Basketball player I can truly appreciate her growth! As a person I couldn’t ask for a better example of a young lady! An honor roll student, respectful, and hard working. She’s also very family oriented and as her dad that makes me proud!

Q: What are your emotions and mindset as you soak in this last year with her before she leaves for college and look towards the future?

A: We have a saying in this house that “we are where our feet are”. The meaning behind that is to live in the moment. Don’t get too far ahead of yourself and your journey. Appreciate it all! I find myself looking at her highlights and wondering how this will look and feel in the Bob! This club and HS journey is approaching the end and I’m so thankful for it all. She’s learned a lot about the game but most importantly she’s learned a lot about herself as a young woman!

Q: Why do you think Nebraska will be a great fit for Jayden and what are you most excited about for her in her journey as a Husker?

A: You don’t go to a place like Nebraska if you aren’t willing to be challenged with healthy competition daily! For us, this is what she thrives in and what will be needed to continue her progression. We truly believe that iron sharpens iron! Coach Dani and her staff are GREAT at what they each do and we’re looking forward to seeing how they piece it all together. I think she will do great in a system like Nebraska’s! She’s a competitor on both sides of the net and is going in with the only expectation to compete! What excites me the most is the support that she will get on and off campus! There’s just something warm about the feeling of the people there in Lincoln. I get chills thinking of her putting up a HUGE block in the Bob and the reaction of the crowd!!! Getting goosebumps just typing this… If you can’t tell I’m just a proud dad who’s always believed that hard work and dedication ALWAYS pays off! I truly believe JJ has been a testament of this!

The Robinson family is a tightly-knit family built on mutual trust, unconditional support, and hard work – all staples of the Husker Volleyball program. When it comes to Husker parents, they will make a perfect fit within the culture that Nebraska has cultivated; familial, high-expectations, and driven in their pursuit with and for each other. It’s no surprise that Jayden has developed into such an impressive player already and has earned all of these opportunities with such a nurturing environment, fostered by her family's support and emboldened by her own ambition. I know that both Jason and I are eager to see what the future holds for Jayden, and can not wait for her first “roof, roof, roof” in Devaney.
