Louisville Sweeps Syracuse to Stay Perfect in ACC Play

No. 6 Louisville took care of business on Sunday afternoon, sweeping Syracuse 25-14, 25-18, 25-12 inside L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. The win moved the Cardinals to 2–0 in ACC play and showcased the depth and balance that has defined this team early in the season.
Middle blocker Cara Cresse was the difference at the net, finishing with 12 kills on a .474 hitting percentage while adding five blocks. Opposite hitter Kalyssa Blackshear provided steady production with 11 kills and three blocks of her own, giving the Cardinals multiple options in the attack.
Setter Nayelis Cabello continued to distribute with efficiency, recording 32 assists while also contributing three aces from the service line. Louisville’s backcourt defense, led by Chloe Chicoine, Payton Petersen, and libero Kamden Schrand, kept Syracuse under pressure and helped limit the Orange to just a .040 hitting percentage.
Louisville’s ability to spread the offense and control the net underscored the balance of the roster. The Cardinals did not rely on a single standout but instead displayed contributions across the board, a sign of their depth as the conference season unfolds.
With two comfortable wins to open ACC play, the Cardinals now turn their attention west. They’ll travel to California for a road swing that includes a matchup with Cal before a nationally televised showdown at No. 3 Stanford on October 5. That contest will provide an early measuring stick for Louisville’s title aspirations.
