Louisville’s Young Core Continues to Lead the ACC

Louisville’s future looks as strong as its present, with two underclassmen once again earning top conference recognition. Sophomore setter Nayelis Cabello and freshman opposite Kalyssa Blackshear swept the ACC’s weekly awards, with Cabello claiming Setter of the Week for the third time this season and Blackshear earning her third Freshman of the Week honor.
Cabello’s Command of the Offense
Cabello continues to drive Louisville’s rhythm with precision and confidence. Across wins over NC State and Wake Forest, she tallied 86 assists, averaging 12.29 per set, while guiding the Cardinals to a .320 team hitting percentage. The Clermont, Florida native also added 18 digs and three blocks, rounding out her performance as a true two-way setter. With three Setter of the Week nods this fall, Cabello has firmly established herself among the ACC’s elite.
Blackshear’s Consistency at the Net
On the right side, Blackshear continues to play far beyond her freshman status. She posted 29 kills on a .453 hitting percentage for the weekend, averaging 4.14 kills per set and adding six blocks and 32 total points. Her efficiency and composure in conference play highlight why she has quickly become one of the league’s top newcomers and a key piece of Louisville’s offense moving forward.
A Program Built to Sustain Success
With Cabello and Blackshear anchoring the lineup, Louisville’s foundation remains secure for years to come. Head coach Dani Busboom Kelly’s program has made excellence routine, producing young talent that continues to perform under pressure.
The Cardinals aren’t just competing in the ACC; they’re shaping its future.
