Louisville Opens ACC Play with Commanding Sweep of Boston College

Louisville Opens ACC Play with Commanding Sweep of Boston College

If there were any questions about Louisville’s readiness for ACC play, they were answered quickly on Friday night. The No. 6 Cardinals handled Boston College in straight sets, 25-12, 25-17, 25-15, at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

Louisville controlled every phase of the match, out-serving, out-blocking, and out-hitting the Eagles. The Cards finished with seven aces, held Boston College to a .049 hitting percentage, and got a standout performance from sophomore outside hitter Payton Petersen.

Petersen posted a match-high 13 kills on a .524 clip, adding four digs and a block. Her consistency continues to establish her as Louisville’s most reliable offensive option. Middle blocker Hannah Sherman anchored the defense with five blocks, repeatedly disrupting Boston College’s attack.

Running the offense, setter Nayelis Cabello tallied 35 assists and added three kills on three swings. Louisville’s serving game set the tone early, led by freshman Hannah Kenny with three aces and senior Molly Wilson with two. That pressure kept the Eagles out of rhythm from the start.

Depth also played a role, as reserve outside hitter Alanna Bankston provided a late spark with back-to-back kills and a solo block to help close out the sweep.

While Boston College is not among the ACC’s top-tier challengers, Louisville’s efficient and decisive performance reflected a team locked in on its long-term goals. Dominant showings like this reinforce the Cardinals’ status as a national contender as the conference season begins.
