Louisville Ends Stanford’s 20-Match Home Streak with Statement Win

The No. 6 Louisville Cardinals capped their California road trip with one of the most impressive wins of the 2025 season, defeating No. 4 Stanford 3–1 (21–25, 25–18, 25–20, 26–24) on Sunday afternoon inside Maples Pavilion. The victory snapped Stanford’s 20-match home win streak and improved Louisville’s record to 12–2 overall and 4–0 in the ACC.

After dropping the opening set, the Cardinals responded with composure and control, outlasting the Cardinal in every key phase the rest of the way. Louisville hit .304 as a team with 62 kills and 11 blocks, showing both offensive firepower and balance across the lineup.

Payton Petersen led a four-headed attack with 15 kills and 14 digs, her fifth double-double of the season. Chloe Chicoine added 13 kills and 11 digs, while middle blocker Cara Cresse was a force at the net with 13 kills and eight blocks. On the right side, Kalyssa Blackshear provided consistent production with 11 kills. Setter Nayelis Cabello paced the offense with 52 assists and delivered the match-clinching kill in the fourth set.

Defensively, Louisville held Stanford to .258 hitting — an impressive feat against one of the nation’s most efficient offenses. Libero Kamden Schrand anchored the backcourt with 13 digs, and the Cardinals’ block forced Stanford into long rallies that tilted in Louisville’s favor.

Stanford was led by Elia Rubin with 19 kills and Lizzy Andrew, who hit .688 on 12 kills. But Louisville’s depth, discipline, and late-set execution proved decisive, handing the Cardinal their first home loss since 2023.

Louisville returns home next weekend to the L&N Federal Credit Union Arena for a pair of ACC matchups, hosting Virginia Tech on October 10 and Virginia on October 12.
