Libero Battle: Who will wear the jersey next season?

Libero Battle: Who will wear the jersey next season?

With new acquisitions during the offseason and Maddy Bilinovic graduating in May, many Bluejay fans are left wondering who will be wearing the libero jersey next season.

The first contender is sophomore Sydney Breissinger. Breissinger has played libero for the Jays in the past and has performed incredibly. Not only does Breissinger have a great passing rating, but also an excellent serve. She is someone who can go on great serving runs which was crucial to the Jays success last season.

The second option is freshman Alivia Hausmann. While Hausmann did not have as much playing time as the others, coming off the bench she did make a large impact. Most notably, serving aces against Penn State and Texas during the NCAA tournament. While Hausmann is more used to playing DS and not libero, it would be an interesting choice given her serving success.

The final option would be new Bluejay, Saige Damrow. Coming out of the Wisconsin program, Damrow primarily played libero before getting injured this past season. Transferring from Wisconsin to Creighton is exciting as the BIG 10 has some tough competition so Damrow will have been used to going up against some hard hitters.

From what I've seen so far, I think Breissinger is the most likely candidate for the position. Given her experience already with the team and her performance in the tournament last year. But, both Damrow and Hausmann also have tournament and high level experience so it really is anyone's game at this point.

While it is unlikely, there is a chance Coach Rosen could utilize two liberos giving the talent these girls have. However, it is more likely one will serve as libero and the others as a defensive specialist. It will be exciting to see who Coach Rosen chooses as we inch closer to the start of the season.
