Creighton Taking it to the NEXT LEVEL Recruiting Wise

I said it as soon as they knocked off Texas, “that was the W that officially takes the Prestige Level of the ‘Jays up another level recruiting-wise nationally”. It was no disrespect on what Coach Bernthal-Booth and staff had done previously, actually they had maximized the regional talent scene and trained the hell out of the talent they recruited, but the huge season, high national ranking all year, the debate over a #1 seed and THEN BEATING TEXAS IN THE ROUND OF 16. That was the Nationally Televised victory the program needed, with recruits from all over America watching to take the logo from a neat little Midwest program to one of about 10 in the NCAA that everyone knows about.
Fast forward six months and despite the retirement of long time head coach Bernthal-Booth a new kind of recruiting style is exactly what you are about to see at Creighton. Enter Brian Rosen, new head coach, former recruiting lead, and whether it was his idea or that of the program, it’s time for the ‘Jays to look Nationwide. Of course, the heart will stay rooted around Nebraska and the Midwest, where there is plenty of great talent, but if you can add a Texas arm or even a top recruit from East Coast, Creighton will be all in on taking that shot. More so, you are going to see more recruits from those areas starting to show serious interest in coming to check out Creighton, where before that wasn’t the case very often.
No better example of that growth is the Creighton Select ID Camp that is going on today at D.J. Sokol Arena. One big change is the staff is taking a smaller # of select camp athletes this year than in the past, partially so they can spend more time and focus on each one and give them an excellent evaluation, but also I think they wanted to put more of a focus on mostly 2027s at this camp. So they could get better attendance of girls having it be there first trip to campus. Actually very smart, if girls come as 8th/9th graders, they will often attend other camps; interested or not, the next summer, which is the big one recruiting-wise.
Then the July Camp will be filled up with a list of very talented 2028 and 2029 prospects checking out the program and campus. Another big change and commitment Creighton has made is who they hired as their newest assistant coach and Recruiting Coordinator, naming former Wisconsin Badger National Champion Setter Izzy Ashburn and Indy Ignite staffer for the job. She brings enthusiasm, a name, resume and street cred at all levels the prospects can all remember and understand.
With a small 2025 Class that just came in, look for this 2027 class to be of a good size. They do not need a Setter, and DS/Libero is a question mark, so look for them to load up on the front row. That being said, here are some of the top prospects I’ve been able to confirm from our Player Profiles or the athletes that they are in Creighton for camp today:
Quite a few Middles:
Cynthia Ockerman Legacy Volleyball Michigan PPV 227
Ruthie Robinson Kairos Volleyball out of South Dakota PPV 203
Presley Kreter PVA out of Kansas PPV 171
Shayla Rautenberg Nebraska ONE PPV 267 *Class of 2028
Addison Bartnik Aspire Volleyball is out of the Phoenix area. PPV 153
Margaret Foote (Washington State) I’ve loved each time on film the past month. PPV 179
*Also know another top prospect that didn’t make it from out-of-state
Really Like The outside I know about
Allie Hudgins TAV PPV 248
Olivia Perimeter TAV 180
Reagan Wallraff Nebraska ONE PPV 237
Include the 3-4 top prospects who couldn’t attend this session of camp, and this should be an exciting recruiting season for Creighton and the start of many. Watch for them to definitely eye those couple of top out-of-state stars while taking care of the home talent like they always have.
