Creighton Hires New Assistant

Creighton Hires New Assistant

After the promotion of Coach Brian Rosen to head coach because of the departure of Coach Booth, the Bluejays have been looking for new coach to fill Rosen’s role of assistant coach and lead of recruiting. Creighton has found this role in Izzy Ashburn!

Ashburn comes from Dayton, Minnesota and played collegiate volleyball for Wisconsin. As Wisconsin has been a consistent top program, Ashburn will bring an interesting perspective to the table as a setter. She will most likely be helping to decide who will lead the Bluejays between their available setters.

After playing at Wisconsin, Ashburn went on to play professional volleyball in Poland and most recently coached for the United States pro team, Indy Ignite. This is also exciting because Ashburn will bring a pro volleyball experience which is rare in a college coach as the professional volleyball leagues are so new.

When Ashburn was asked how she felt about joining the Bluejays she said, “I'm incredibly excited and honored to be joining the Creighton Volleyball program," said Ashburn. "After coaching professionally in the U.S., making the transition to the collegiate level is a step I'm thrilled to take—especially with a program that has such a strong tradition of winning and an even stronger culture. I'm deeply grateful to all the alumni, staff, and players who have built Creighton Volleyball into what it is today. A huge thank you to Coach Brian Rosen and the entire coaching staff for welcoming me into the Bluejay family. I can't wait to contribute, help grow the game, and build on the incredible foundation that's already been laid here in Omaha."

Ashburn has already hit the ground running travelling to a few tournaments around the Midwest doing some scouting and recruiting. It will be very exciting to see the talent she recruits in the coming years as Coach Rosen did so well previously in this role.

Coach Rosen also said, “As an athlete, I love her story of taking on any role thrown her way and working tirelessly to become the captain and starting setter at Wisconsin. She knows what it takes to be successful and compete for the goals we are chasing here at Creighton. Her championship pedigree and recent coaching experience at the highest levels will allow her to make an immediate impact on our setter group and team as a whole. Izzy is an incredible relationship builder and embodies our Creighton Culture. She will help us continue to bring top student-athletes into our program."

You can catch both Coach Rosen and Coach Ashburn and the rest of the Bluejays this fall on the road or at home in DJ Sokol Arena.
