Cats Land OH/DS Shania Rhamy for Class of '27

The Cats are keeping busy on the recruiting trail, and that's proven especially true for the class of 2027 as three verbal commitments, with more likely coming, have already been announced this month.

First up is Shania Rhamy, a 5'8" outside hitter/defensive specialist from Indiana. While Rhamy currently plays on the left pin for her club team, the coaching staff expects her unique athleticism and defensive abilities to be a valuable asset to the team, especially in the back row. Her role could be very similar to how the Cats have utilized Asia Thigpen, who has played primarily in the backcourt as a defender but also has an explosive vertical and a heavy arm that can be called upon on the left side. That athleticism, combined with her ties to Munciana, where head coach Craig Skinner is originally from, allowed her to stand out quickly to the Cats on the recruiting trail.

"She's kind of a mix between Molly Tuozzo and Asia Thigpen," VBAdrenaline owner Darren. Tipton said. "Super athletic, plays outside for her club team currently, but we think she'll really excel in the backcourt. We'll probably do an opportunity at both, kinda like we did Asia (Thigpen)."

Skinner has always been regarded as a defensive-minded coach, one who stresses the importance of basic defensive principles and strong serve-receive. And from the sounds of it, Rhamy fits that mold to a tee.

"Really cool defensive moves have good platform touch and just understanding of control in serve receive," Tipton said. "And just her ability to read and make some really cool moves in defense is awesome."

Along with her abilities on the court, the coaching staff was also impressed with her excitement and dedication to the program at such a young age. In fact, upon receiving an offer out of Lexington, Rhamy jumped at the chance to play for the blue and white.

"She was excited about Kentucky and the opportunity. She actually called back and was like, 'I don't wanna lose this opportunity, I wanna be a Cat.'"

That excitement will prove to be an invaluable asset to the team, one that Kentucky fans will love to hear. And from the sounds of things, her play on the court is sure to bring plenty of excitement of its own.
