2025 Louisville Volleyball Season Preview: A Culture-Driven Contender Eyes Another Final Four Run

Louisville Volleyball enters the 2025 season with its sights set high. After a 2024 campaign that fell just shy of a National Championship, the Cardinals are back with a veteran core, rising talent, and a culture that continues to set the standard across the sport.
A Purposeful Start
The ACC pushed the official start date for volleyball up to August 1, but head coach Dan Meske made a decision that reflects the heart of the Louisville program. Rather than call his team back early, he allowed players to honor their planned time off. The Cardinals will officially begin team activities on August 5, offering open gyms beforehand for those already on campus.
It’s a subtle but powerful move that reflects the foundation this program is built on: trust, respect, and long-term sustainability. In Louisville, culture isn’t just a buzzword. It’s a competitive advantage.
Veteran Firepower Returns
Several key returners will be leading the charge this fall:
- Chloe Chicoine (OH, Jr.) enters her third season as one of the most dynamic and consistent outside hitters in the country.
- Cara Cresse (MB, R-Sr.) returns to patrol the net at 6-foot-6, bringing unmatched blocking, efficiency, and court leadership.
- Reese Robins (OH, So.) will continue to build off a strong sophomore season with her six-rotation versatility and scoring punch.
Position Battles and Breakout Potential
Keep an eye on Kalyssa Blackshear (OPP, Fr.), who had an exceptional spring and summer. She adds size and athleticism to the opposite and could make an immediate impact. Her development sets up a high-level battle for playing time on the right side.
Hannah Sherman (MB, Jr.) is also primed for a breakout season with a larger role. Her experience and steady improvement make her a critical part of Louisville’s front-row strength.
Who’s Running the Show?
The offense will be quarterbacked by Nayelis Cabello (S, So.), who returns after a standout freshman year and a strong showing throughout the spring. Cabello has the poise, creativity, and connection with her hitters to steer the Cards in a likely 5-1 system.
On the defensive end, Kamden Schrand (L/DS, Jr.) steps into the starting libero role, while Hannah Kenny (DS/L, Fr.) joins the squad ready to contribute immediately in the backcourt. Expect both to play pivotal roles in stabilizing serve receive and fueling transition play.
One Goal: Final Four
The mission for 2025 is simple: return to the Final Four. With a veteran-heavy lineup, key newcomers, and a coaching staff that continues to emphasize player-first decisions, Louisville is positioned not just to contend but to lead.
They’re built to compete. They’re built to last. And once again, they’re built for the biggest stage.
