NCR Area Championship

Fargo/Moorhead hosted some high level volleyball this past weekend. With teams from South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota all coming for a piece of the action.

The South Dakota Club Monarch 18-1 team took home the Gold Bracket Championship without a single set lost. This squad of varsity veterans clicked well throughout the tournament, showing their years of play together. Setter Ava Nilsson using her array of offensive outlets, kept blockers a step behind her at all times. Kyra Marcuson showed her well rounded abilities as she maintained a constant offensive threat from any position on the court. The Monarch's 16-1 team found success in tournament as well, placing third in the Gold Bracket. Nevaeh Lesnar packed a powerful outside attack assisted by setter, Libby Scepaniak, leaving them undefeated in pool play, not unlike the rest of the Gold Bracket finalists. In fact, all four Gold Bracket Finalists entered tournament play without a loss, making for an intense tournament finale.

The HVC Hawks 16s showed major growth from the start of their club season taking second in the Gold Bracket. Piper Spiekermeier, at just 14 years old, proves she can hold her own in the backrow against her older opponents. The Hawks offense do not pull punches as Olivia Schock, Gabbi Sturlaugson, and Shaylie Bovkoon make up a front row to be reckoned with.

Volt also had an impressive tournament showing with their 15 Open team taking third in the Gold Bracket. We collected many new names to know from this team, among them were Ellee McIntosh, Brielle Killoran, Alivia Peterson, Brianna Schmitz, and Alexa Killoran.

We of course need to mention the 16s Gold Bracket Champions, CVC 16O Navy! This team's hitting line up is packed with diverse and talented players and very little gets past them. However, if a ball does break through their block, you can be sure their defense will be there to pick up the slack. This is an easy team to watch as their energy is contagious, every point met with big enthusiasm. Standing out for CVC this weekend was Hope Bauman with her fantastic attitude and endless scrappiness and Addison Klemin in the middle guiding the teams several blocks and kills.
